36 barrels, 1,000,000 rounds/pm

This beast has 36 barrels on it and can fire at a rate of 1,000,000 rounds a minute

I want that in HL2

Holy CRAP!!

I can't imagine there could be any application, much less a practical one, for that. It doesn't seem like it could actually fire at that rate for a minute as much as it jumped around. Maybe if it was mounted incredibly well...I'd love to see that.

Yeah. I saw this on TV a year or two ago (a lot longer documentary than this clip, obviously). They indeed planned to use it against missiles.

That slow-motion... really wasn't very good.

Yah, it wasn't really slow enough. We need some bullet-time shots of that.

It WAS shooting a MILLION rounds per minute though.

Beat me to it, but that's the most effect use for a weapon like that. It would create a prety good missle screen if you ask me.

Thats probably the ONLY effective use for a weapon like that. I can't imagine any other possible application.

I vote we use it to execute Osama when they catch him.

Yeah, but could it hold 1,000,000 rounds?
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Railguns and "Rods from God". What more could you want?

"A massive destroyer receives the location coordinates of an enemy headquarters more than 200 miles away. Instead of launching a million-dollar Tomahawk cruise missile, it points a gun barrel in the direction of the target, diverts electric power from the ship's engine to the gun turret, and launches a 3-foot-long, 40-pound projectile up a set of superconducting rails. The projectile leaves the barrel at hypersonic velocity--Mach 7-plus--exits the Earth's atmosphere, re-enters under satellite guidance, and lands on the building less than six minutes later; its incredible velocity vaporizes the target with kinetic energy alone."

There are no ammo belts really in this weapon. Those barrels are really just tunnels filled with bullet - explosive agent - bullet - explosive agent - bullet - etc series... The explosive agent is ignited electronically. So, it's a caseless ammo for this weapon, like for any weapons where you want an extraordinarily high fire rate. Such numbers of shots per minute are well out of range for any gatling guns, or other usual applications.

Edit: Don't quote me on this... It has been a long time since I saw that documentary, but that's how I remember it...

Indeed.

Some of these new weapons designs are ridiculous! A missile that flies at Mach-7!? It would be cool to see but would you want it coming at your house and barely even see it before it exploded.

Anyways, one thing I didn't see on that article is the implementation of the OICW. I heard that the weapon should be standard military issue in 5 years.

To finish up, must.... have... 36 barrel.... gun!

Slowly? Or with some prepacked stuff. I'm sure the engineers have designed a way to do that, but I'm quite sure it's not as fast and easy as just changing the belt of an ordinary machine gun.
