Well, whats next after that? being taxed for literally EVERYTHING you own, yearly? This world is becoming increasingly disturbing.

Im not really afraid of RFID tags. With a good jammer, the problem is solved...

I used to believe that we must fight the future, lest change come without our consent. I was wrong. The truth is that we must embrace the future, for only with change can we remain the same.

I say we make a jammer that makes all the items in my house look like porn videos.

That'll teach em.

You people and the media are both horrible alarmists. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Work in retail, see the possibilities. You carry a RFID tag, all of the items carry RFID tags, just walk through the door and we don't even have to talk to you anymore.

Also, those tags are small and light enough to place on DVDs, which would really help stop people from slicing open the sides of amarays.

But, thinking of retail, couldn't this destroy the need for register worker ringer upper people down the line? Think, you have your own personal RFID chipcreditcard. You put all the stuff you want on your personna, and then you walk out the door. It sees that you have new things on you, and then it checks for your RFIDcredit card number and instantly bills it. Good for everyone, right? Stores don't get scammed, people can get in and out easier... And there are no longer any need for those pesky cash register people.

Think internet cookies that monitor your browsing habits and then target ads at you based on what it knows you are looking for.

Now think of that happening in real life. You turn on the TV and boom, there's a commercial for your favorite chips. Buy buy buy.

Granted, thats a long shot prediction, but not unplausable.

Also, RFID's will not eliminate cashier jobs. RFID's will simply make cashiers less prone to error. RFID's aren't failproof. Radio Signals can and do get mixed and information could become skewed.

You definitely would not want to be autobilled for a $400 Meade telescope when the chip in your Nilla Wafers box malfunctions.

Doesn't seem to be that big of a deal to me. Seems like they're just trying to find a way besides simple surveys to get the same information they've been getting for years.

On the other hand, surveys are optional. I guess technically these are, too, assuming they tell you the product has a chip in it before you buy in (in which case, you can choose whether or not to buy the product), but I don't know how well that would hold up in court...

You know that most targetted ads (like stuff you get through store loyalty schemes) are to make you buy stuff that you don't already buy, right? They're not gonna try and make you buy your favourite chips, they will target you with ads for stuff you aren't already buying but your profile indicates you may have an interest in.

To me, this has always seemed like a very good idea. Half the time when i'm buying food I want to try something new, except I don't know what to try. Targetted ads are a good way of broadening people's tastes.

someone needs to put the tags on, someone needs to install the software, someone needs to install the scanners, lots of people need to make and deliver all the things that are sued for that, and lastly, someone needs to make the transaction. America may use lots of credit cards but in australia we have eftpos which lets us pay for things directly from our bank account so we need someone to operate the machine to get the proper cash transfer.

you do know that that wont come in due to the fact that companies pay to get their ads on tv and want people that dont like their product to like their product. so advertiseing only to those who buy their product wont help, also ads would need to be a set amount of time so that they all fit in and everyone's ad brakes would end at the same time.

Also, if it happened, you could actualy make a complaint. Remember, complaing about not getting ecactly what was advertised or if a malfunction happens they are not going to assume that something is a telescope because it says that on the scanner even if the box is nowhere near big enough for one.
