Shopping for new speakers...

... to replace my Logitechs. The subwoofer is crapping out and the warranty is over.

This is what I'm looking at right now:
http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=4&subcategory=28&product=4910

They really interest me because I record a lot with my computer and decent shielded monitors would be more suited for my applications than the 5.1 kit I have right now.

I need suggestions/comments. :)

I've just hooked up my computer to my surround receiver.
Sorry for the lousy German

Yeah.

Line out, get a Y cable that goes from the size of the speaker jac to RCA. Plugs RIGHT into the back of the stereo. Much rejoicing.

If you're thinking about real Monitors, and you record enough to where it'd be worth it, then I have some suggestions.

http://www.abluesky.com/p_s_gb/p3s1.html
Sky system ones. This is what george lucas used at skywalker ranch. Accurate frequency response, which means what you hear is what you get (unlike most pc speakers and most budget systems). It may be a bit pricey, but then you said you wanted the shiznit ;)

Alesis Monitor One
a pair of these is about $250 here http://www.kraftmusic.com/catalog/audio/monitorspeakers/1242
But since they're passive, you'll need an amp. The alesis RA150 here http://www.kraftmusic.com/catalog/audio/monitorspeakers/1243
goes for $200, and is the generally recommended amp if you're looking to keep everything from the same company.

Obviously, it will vary upon your specific needs and preference. Here's a few suggestions for other budget monitors you may want to research:
M-Audio Studiophiles http://www.midiman.com/
Behringer Truths here
These are generally considered the best bang-for-buck as far as monitors go. Plus, they're active so you won't need an amp.

These aren't your average PC speakers, either, hence the price. But if you're serious about your music, eventually studio monitors are an investment you'll want to make.

<Anovis> mmmm I wanna lick your wet, Mentis.

Psh, do your surround system justice. Get a decent sound card with SPDIF-out, and run that cable to the receiver. Bam, insta-surround sound.

Definitely what I'm looking at now. That's about my price limit right there, and with a great name backing the product. I've have to look into those. Thanks. :)

Assuming your receiver has a high-quality DAC. Otherwise, the analog out might just sound better.

If you need a good transport for SP/DIF-Out, the Chaintech AV-710 is pretty good for $30.
