Sesame Street kills a puppet?
2004-04-23, 2:48 AM #1
I heard today in math class that on a show of sesame street, maybe only on the american version, they killed grover.

I was told they were doing something about running into the road and rather then having some nobody puppet, they sent grover to get the ball and he died.

is this true? can someone find me something about this? google did nothing... They didn't beleive me about the africa version of sesme street had an HIV positive puppet, but i find it hard to beleive that they killed off one of my most favorite characters when i was a wee little lad!

Here's a BBC story on the HIV character.
www.news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/2123697.stm
And another...

So far I've found nothing on Grover or Earnie dying.

I've done a few Google searches now and nothing has turned up about any of them dying. I find it hard to believe they'd kill off a character in a childrens TV show.

myth huh...

I donno the details, my teacher just said he heard that they killed off an important and popular character to show kids it can happen, makes more of an impact if they kill of an important character rather then a random puppet.

Supposedly when Conan O'Brian went on one of the muppet shows, he asked to see Snufflupogus -his favorite character- and they pointed him to the rafters where they keep the muppets hanging when not in use.

It wouldnt be the first time. When Mr. Hooper, the grocer, died it was a huge deal, and they did an entire episode about it.

It makes me feel really old that none of you remember or know about Mr. Hooper. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

That's actually not surprising, considering it's the African version of Sesame Street. As I recall, Africa has the largest population of AIDS victims. So it would only make sense to equip the children with knowledge about it.

I remember Mr. Hooper, the kindly old gentleman who worked at the grocery store. I was sad when he died.
