Video Editing Software for PC?
2005-02-03, 5:35 PM #1
I'm going to start creating small movies and music videos soon, as to prepare for launching my Film Career hopefully. I'll be using them for part of my portfolio as well as creations to use to apply to film school and possibly send to studios when completed.

My question is to you guys...I am aware of all the video editing software for MACS...

Is there any video editing software for PC's? Preferable as easy to use as iDVD and iMOVIE for Mac are..

Professional stuf is fine, but I of course would prefer somethign shareware or freeor atleast limited..

IS there any?

Adobe Premiere is probably the most common and the best, but the Mac stuff is still better. IMHO

For PC, Windows Movie Maker isn't bad at all. Premiere is pretty advanced though, especially if you just want to edit simple videos.

VirtualDub is free, but difficult to use.

VirtualDub is not meant for editing and splicing, it is meant for compression.

Adobe Premiere is god. It has a nice interface, and VERY easy to learn. (It's not exactly drag and drop, but it's not much more than that. And it has TONS of features) I use it for all my video editing. However, use VirtualDub to compress the video it outputs. Premiere isn't too good at compressing (near is most other programs).

Macs frankly are losing the war in video editing. Adobe Premiere used to be their staple product, but now it is not even available for Mac any longer. Plus, iMovie is about the same level as Windows Movie Maker (AKA crap).

There is also a toned-down version of Adobe Premiere that costs a lot less and has a few less features. It might be better suited for you if all you need is basic editing.

I've heard nothing but bad things about Dazzle, but Ulead gets some attention (it's interface is arse-backwards though) on the windows arena, and Final Cut is pretty much the standard anymore on the Mac side. (FC Express for low end, Pro for high-end)

Adobe Premiere wins.

Even though I haven't actually installed it yet. So my opinion is pretty much worthless. Which in turn makes this post pretty much worthless. So...

Premiere is great. Avid is great. Vegas 5 is probably pretty good...

Our video editing program here at school uses all Final Cut HD machines... which is awesome.

Ditto for me, except I frameserve to TMPGEnc instead and compress to MPEG-2. Yay for DVD burners! :D
