Any famous relatives?
2005-02-05, 11:19 PM #1
does anyone here have any famous relatives? (living or dead)

If so, post them!

(a prerequisite is that you must also post a biography/description of the person and what makes them famous.)

I happen to have two famous relatives.

1. Sir Humphrey Davy (1778-1829)

Davy invented the miner's helmet and did research with chemistry, (particularly with alkali metals, chlorine, and other elements. I was pissed to realize that, try as I might, I could not pass chemistry in High School. If I had told my instructor who I am directly descended from, he would have hopefully given me some leniency, or better yet, a better grade. Ah, too late now.

2. Kit Carson (1809-1868)

Another person who I am directly descended from. Carson was a trapper, scout, Indian Agent, and soldier.

There's this one great-uncle of mine who stole several tens of thousands of dollars worth of Nazi gold from some castle during WWII... he buried it when he came back to Canada, and when he went to dig it up some years later, there had been a highway built over it. But he's not really famous (I can't even remember his name).

Nothing other than that, at least what I can think of at the moment.

yeah, wayyyyyyy back great great great great great grandpa or something was a privateer for Puerto Rico. He was known as the Terror of the Carribean

Then a couple of greats back, we got family who was a famous singer in Puerto Rico.

Then my aunts cousin is currently a famous singer in Puerto Rico. Forget his name.

And my uncle (mom's bro) recently (as in a couple of months back) was Representing Ricky Martin (yes he's a lawyer obviously) in a lawsuit Ricky had against a former manager of his. My grandma taped all the times my uncle came out on tv. he started getting recognized diff. places in puerto rico, people would go up asking if he was ricky's lawyer. I think that's kinda funny lol

My grandmother on my father's side is second-cousin to Eliel Saarinen. He was an architect probably most famous for designing the Helsinki Central Railwaystation .

[edit: addition]
Oh, and my mother's grandfather was a local hero/celebrity in the Porvoo - Loviisa area during the kieltolaki-era in Finland (alcohol prohibition 1919 - 1932). He was a rum-smuggler. He was finally caught when the police chased him (on horseback, naturally) and his carriage slipped into a ditch on a turn he took too quickly, smashing his cargo and sending him flying into a field. He made it alright, he was apparently pretty popular among the police too. He had to stop his runs though. Apparently his goods were never metanol-contaminated either as all his stuff was imported by ship.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Apparently one of my great great great aunts was Anne Boleyn. As far as I know, all she's famous for is getting her head cut off because she couldn't have Henry VIII's son...or something. (That's probably an extremely simplified version of the story, but like I say..."as far as I know.")

Uh...here. Maybe I should read that too.

[edit-Whoops, that's Henry the eighth, not the thirteenth...]

- Eh, the only blood relation I can think of - William Morris - a signer of the Declaration of Independence; WAY back on on my Dad's side.

Associations, not actual relations:

- Buzz Aldrin - of the Apollo 11 mission - second man on the moon. He and my grandmother dated for a long time back in the day.
- Butch Cassidy - the nicest robber to ever roam the Old West. My great-grandmother was very good friends with him.

I don't think I have any famous relatives. I'd probably have to really search the family tree.

Since it's most likely not going to produce me any royalties. Feh.

My great grandfather was a belgian composer but I can't be bothered fishing out his details

My great grandmother's cousin was meant to be one of the most famous Violinists in Belgium for a time too, his name was "Doehaerd" something. Well that's his second name. He used to rock, big time. ;)
