Anyone have any idea what country this helmet is from, or the war? It was sold to me from the army surplus store as a WWII Japanese helmet, but it does'nt look anything like the pics google brings up. So anyone got any good guesses?

I'm very very far from being an expert but is it just that piece? What does the inside look like? Perhaps it's jsut the liner or something. Also try looking for WWI stuff, too.

Edit: After further review I had decided that i was pretty sure that it's a japanese WWii-era helmet, but upon further further review it's not tall enough, i don't think. So basically ignore everything I say ever.

Yeah, It just doesnt look like a japanese one, so basically what you said Bob. The inside isnt original material, it has a newer replacement lining.

Keep in mind helmets can look very different once you put up the cover and the net.

I don't know exactly which army this belongs to.. but all I can tell you is that it's not france.

I don't know much about the subject myself, but weren't British helmets very similar to this?

Yeah, looks like a British WWI helmet... but I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Undeniably British, the grade 1 steel construction and regulation GPAB 0.5 inch rim are a dead giveaway.

I have no idea what I'm talking about either.

They used the same style of helmet in WW2 as well. I dont think this is British though, I'm not sure, but it looks a bit different.

It is neither English or German. It is possibly a Japanese one, but Im not sure. I also suspect Russian..but only very slightly.

http://www.quanonline.com/military/military_reference/japanese/army_helmet.html

Taking a look there, it does look similar.

Russian one:

Ok...so odds are so far, its Japanese

i don't think it's japanese... first of all the link posted above the photo doesn't show that spot at the top of the helmet where it looks like something might be attached on the inside

and i've seen one before and this one doesn't look tall enough... but i'd need a photo from the side to compare

Looks British like the helmets you see on the player models in Day of Defeat. I know not the best reference source but...

It's pretty simple in design, definitely looks like something the British would do.

Edit: Why dontcha take a pic of you wearing it and compare that to other images?

It does look like the helmet used by the Japanese player models in Hidden & Dangerous 2
[http://hidden-and-dangerous2.zoo.co.jp/weapons/weap_sol05.gif]

By doing a google image search, I found this site where you've got a helmet that looks like your's and a uniform bunch ("Japanese army display") that has at least one infantryman with something like your helmet.

It could possibly be Soviet too. It a bit like one that a friend of mine had. Not British though.
