The Best Decade Ever.
2005-02-07, 9:54 AM #1
What do you think the best decade was? Personally, I would've loved to be my age now during the 80's. I like the 80's because of the movies and music that was out during the time (cause naturally, horror and metal ruled this decade!). So what do you think? What's your favorite and why?

Musically and moviewise, 70's and 80's
Technologically, 00's

I've always felt that my mum's generation got it right. The whole hippy thing during your teens in the 60s, disco or stadium rock in your twenties in the 70s, then once the 80s (the most embarassing decade ever) roll around, you're probably at the point of having children and settling down and not paying attention to the world around you.

00's. 90's would be my second choice.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

2007 forever. :D

EDIT: oh wait, decade? 2010! :)

2020's. Then shall we see the rise of Kedri once again.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Musicwise, the 1960's and 1970's.

The Rolling Stones, Steppenwolf, Led Zeppelin, the Kinks, The Who, Procol Harum, T-Rex, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, Vanilla Fudge, Donovan, etc.

Then again, the 1930's and 1920's might've been interesting aesthetically what with Art Deco and Art Nouveau style buildings being made and the fine automobiles. Who knows? I might like it, as long as I'm not suffering from the Depression or Prohibition :p

Being my current age during the early-mid 90's wouldn't have been half bad either.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Growing up in the 80's was the best thing about that decade. Kids TV and toys were a the perfect level of tech vs going out with your friends and playing footy or whatever.

I wouldn't want to have lived in any other decade. :p

India, 1580's.

Music was thriving.

Not to mention the latest technological wave, shovels.

In all honesty, I miss the 80's, shows like Macguyver and ST:TNG, as well as like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and ducktales.

THOSE WERE TEH DAYS!

Television before american idol and survivor ruined everything.

I will have to say the 1990s. By far, in my opinion.

The Simpsons, Nirvana, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, grunge, post-grunge, alternative rock, Clerks, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Blade Runner Director's Cut, DVD, The Matrix, Fight Club, Jim Carrey, The Truman Show, death of the audio casette, 2pac Shakur, Dr Dre, The Slim Shady LP, "...Baby One More Time", Vanilla Ice, M.C. Hammer, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Boy Meets World, Napster, Y2K, the Internet as we know it, Windows 95, Windows 98, blink 182, Enigma, The X-Files, MTV (when it was cool), Titanic, Pokémon, Final Fantasy VII (and VI for the stubborn lot of you), Disney's Aladdin and Lion King (pretty much the only good ones by Disney, not counting those by Pixar), '90s hip-hop, Sega Genesis, SNES, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, GoldenEye, Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (arguably the best one), The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (also damn good), pretty much all games of the '90s rocked ***, Doom, first-person shooters, whatever, StarCraft, Age of Empires, the Zone (when it was good), Massassi ;), no adware, spyware, pop-ups, advertisements on the Internet, no pretentious website designs, Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys (I was never a fan, i.e. Spice Girls 4ever, however, I'm pretty damn sure that a very large percentage of you, especially those of you who were in grade school when the Backstreet Boys came out, were big fans--and don't even deny it), the whole damn culture, man it was awesome, I can't think of any more specific examples right now, but there was so much stuff, so much good stuff, so many awesome movies, good music, furthermore, refer to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for more examples.

Pretty damn big impact on pop music which led up to the pop music of today, but was, nonetheless, so much better.

People were proper in the 1950's for the most part. Good table manners, respect your elders, you know, the stuff that today's society has all but gotten rid of.

You know, no one is stopping you from doing that this decade.

Yeah, I know. But the majority of America seems to have lost it. I still have respect for my elders, and I use proper table manners where needed, so I'm not a total loss yet.

Yeah, I don't know what that guy is on. I was born in 85, so I've been through half of the 80's, all of the 90's, and half of the 00's. There's 3 decades there.

And those blacks knew their place as second class citizens, and women knew their roles in the kitchen, everyone was deathly afraid of sex, anything that wasn't Christian was terribly offensive, everyone hated those commies unquestioningly. Yeah, the 50s were great.

1920's

I would buy on margin. Will the prosperity ever end? I doubt it!

I always wanted to experience the 1950s and 1980s as a teenager, then come back to this time. The music and atmosphere. In the 50s you had the parents of future hippies and disco running around having fun, listening to music, going to drive in movies watching cheesie Sci Fi movies. In the 80s you had the horror movies, the birth of techno and electronic based music, etc. And the hair. Oh God, I wanna go back just to laugh at the hair.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Nero was one ****ed up king.

In all seriousness--1980s. The hacking scene...makes me cry with the beauty of perfection that permeated the era. Read Underground, The Book if you don't understand. It's free, online.
