Just got Doom3

And all I can say is wow... I have it on ultra settings with some nice frame rate right now. I love my computer... this game is amazing. I'm actually still alittle creeped from just playing an hours worth. I can't wait to get back to it and find out what the hell is happening to these people... something to do with the devil I can't wait to find out for sure. :)

soon you'll go from "HOLY ****ING CRAP I'M GONNA DIE" to "oh, it's just a zombie."
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.
2005-02-07, 5:15 PM #3
I went back and unlocked nightmare to play it... the game is impossible... TOTALLY different from the first time... Way more scary, and things actually die slowly... it's so much more fun. :)

Impressive--ultra isn't something easily accomplished. SLI?

I personally loved the game in all its simplicity, but others didn't. So hey.

Or you'll be like me, and be slightly amazed and freaked for a few minutes, and then begin to be pissed off at how annoyingly dark it is, and just how obvious all of the baddies are placed.

Then you'll laugh at it.

I found a few select places in the HL2 Demo in Ravenholm to be FAR more scary and creepy than Doom3.

3.2 ghz Pentium 4
1.0 gigs of ram
64 meg Geforce 5o200
Windows XP SP2

I really don't have alot of slow downs... either that or I'm used to playing at slow frame rate... I get a few slow downs in battle but it's still playable. I might knock it down a bit I was just playing it in Ultra to check out some of the neat effects I keep hearing about... proccesor is definatly picking it up for the video card though...

Ultra settings on a 64MB GFX 5200? I have a hard time believing that
2005-02-07, 7:28 PM #10
Considering you can only use D3 to it's full potential with a 512 meg video card ;). Ultra is just high.

"Oh."

There's hardly even a noticable difference between high and ultra. Just go with High, you'll get a much better framerate, and you won't even notice a difference.

so what, he's lying about it?
2005-02-07, 7:43 PM #18
Actually I had to scale those down... 1024 * 768 is my res.

Oh and btw... can someone tell me who this lovely fellow is? He went down like a sack of crap when I put a few in his head but still he mauled me pretty good.

You don't have a 5200 then, you have a 6*00.

Ultra at 1024x768? My 9600xt can hardly handle that at decent framerates. There's no way a 5200 could handle that.
2005-02-07, 8:13 PM #22
Hmmm well this tells me another story.
2005-02-07, 8:14 PM #23
Yeah, it's lying.

Or you've turned off almost all effects.

I guess I might be used to slower framerates I mean I used to play UT2k3 at about 20 frames a second and was happier than a pig in mud... so I dunno it might be going really slow to you guys but I love it.

You don't realize--you would have a slideshow at those settings. 1fps. Unplayable.

My mobility Radeon 9200 had trouble with Doom 3 at 800x600 at medium settings.

*scratches head in confusion*
2005-02-07, 8:18 PM #27
These are my settings.
2005-02-07, 8:18 PM #28
And here some more... I dunno maybe I have the power of Satan under the hood of my laptop or something.

Well I seem to be progressing nicely.

either you have a REALLY awesome laptop with some wacky software renaming the videocard so that they could justify a price difference in an "upgrade", or your computer is made of the devil and you should first bless your penis, and then urinate all over it. Either way, win win.

Hey I'll take gifts from the devil I mean weither it's satanic or not I still get to play the game at that awsome textures... right?
2005-02-07, 8:45 PM #33
I have the same video card for my laptop, and it could barley run Doom 3 on low at 640 x 480. I mean, max is 30 fps when looking at the ground. In the dark. If more than one monster came on screen it dropped to 15, and if the scenery was anything resemlbing compicated it dropped to about 7. I gave up about halfway through.

Please tell me I'm not alone in that I had to actually SEARCH for the body. I seriously had to do a double take there. "Body? What, body? Oh, THAT body..."

Near pitch darkness does not equate to scary.

Doom 3 is just an elaborate advertisement for Maglite.
