Pancake Day
2005-02-08, 3:26 PM #1
Since today is pancake day, my brother and I decided to break out the Delia Smith and try and cook some pancakes . Naturally, we failed miserably , but at least we gave it a go. So... who else has had pancakes today?

How in Gods name can you NOT know how to make pancakes?! AND WHY IS THERE SUGAR ON THEM?! THE INSANITY!!!!
Think while it's still legal.
2005-02-08, 3:29 PM #3
Pancakes aren't the sort of food I eat frequently... and there is sugar on them, because I had no lemon left. :(

Sugar on buttered pancakes is like kissing god.

Sugar on Pancakes = win.

Good try though, looks to me like you only had problems flipping them. The first one usually comes out poorly because the pan isn't at the correct temperature.

i'd still eat that pancake, looks ugly but probablys tastes just as good.
2005-02-08, 3:36 PM #8
I call it pancake au roadkill.

They didn't taste all that bad, however. I'll hopefully be better at it next year. I'll use a real pan, rather than a wok. Hmmm, does that make those things wokcakes?

The fact that smoke was billowing out of the wok is probably a good sign that it was way too hot.

A flat surface is generally a good idea, too.

Pancakes are bloody awesome, I wasn't aware that it was pancake day.

The ones i make are as big as the surface of the pan and are
about half an inch thick.

american pancakes are fat. british ones are crépe-like.

I forgot to go buy stuff for pancakes.

I put butter, syrup, and sometimes powder sugar on mine. But I really like to save the powdered sugar for french toast. yumyum!

Those damn Britassians!!!
2005-02-08, 11:22 PM #22
Yeah, british pancakes (which are effectively crêpes) are supposed to be as thin as possible, which is why mine have folded over so much. They turned out more or less how I expected them to.

8 tablespoons flour (Self raising works best, plain is also fine)
3 eggs
2/3 pint of milk
1/3 pint of water

Flour in bowl, make small 'pit' into which you crack the eggs, drop in a little bit of the water/milk mix. Whisk, adding milk until you have nothing left to add.

Heat pan, add oil, ladle in dollop of batter. Flip when ready.

Add smattering of friends, a roast chicken, fresh from the oven, cheese, ham, parmesan (sp?), cottage cheese for savoury pankcakes, or for sweet add any of sugar, lemon (fresh squeezed or from bottle), ice cream or squirty cream.

We had a quality pancake day.
2005-02-09, 7:08 AM #30
Yup, damn straight I had my pancakes.

We had a little gathering of like 6 people from the hall and one of us made some yummy pancakes for us all.
With lemon, sugar, syrup, and jelly.

So delicous.

Your culinary skills astound me. They're better than mine.

And waffles should be abound with sugar. That's what makes them the yum.

That's not a real pancake, anyway. That's a scotch pancake.
