Today, I left work at 8:30am EST. Bummed around in Denny's (see: old job), had some coffee and headed home at approximately 9:30am EST. Upon my arrival (about 50 feet from home) I noticed a spectacle. Many cars gathered around my neighbor's trailer, and people carrying stuff. Upon closer inspection as I whizzed by them and nearly hit my aunt's Volvo revealed that one of the men was carrying a computer and his tactical vest read "Orange County Sherrif's Office," which distracted me and almost made me hit said Volvo.
After about half an hour of wondering what the hell was going on and avoiding the living room while the sherrif and a man in a blue tactical vest with the words "Secret Service" or something to that effect talked with my aunt, it was explained to me that in september, my neighbor had replaced his laptop, which had died shortly after the cluster**** of hurricanes that raped us in Florida. What I was not aware of was that said neighbour had a penchant for -- shall we say -- young'uns. His new laptop had a modem card in it (unsupervised internet access was a no-no for him) and he was downloading child pornography from here to sundown. Apparently, he was caught because he attempted to solicit a preteen (male or female I do not know, nor do I want to) and the feds showed up at his place with a search warrant this morning at about 8am, raided the place, took his computer, his pocket pc, his wife's computer (she's torn to hell and over her head in debt she couldn't pay off when she had the bum around, by the way), and arrested him. It can be assumed that my aunt and my neighbor's wife will testify as witnesses in his trial. I may be involved in thisas well, as i have known him for about 4 years. I may have to fight off media whores later.
Said search warrant was very vague. It only had the address. An the list of seized items was apalling. His wife let me browse.
In all honesty, as cliché as it sounds, I never would have expected something like this to happen so close by. I didn't realize the gravity of the situation until the man with the blue tactical vest came in to talk to my aunt.
Thoughts, opinions, comments?
