... From having a 800x600 desktop to having a 1024x768 desktop. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

The reason why I never switched sooner was because I wasn't sure if my near 6 year old CTR monitor could support a decent refresh rate so that my eyes wouldn't melt.

I am now sitting comfortably at a 90hz refresh rate. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Take it a step further! 1280x1024 wins! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]
(hmmm.. I've never really payed any attention to refresh rates. I just checked and mine was set on 60, the highest it can go is 75... I don't see any difference at all [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif])

edit- actually, I just left it on 75 for a few mins and it switched back by itself.. does that mean it was melting or something? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/confused.gif]

you won't see a difference, but if looking at a monitor all day hurts your eyes, you will feel one. higher refresh rate is easier on your eyes.

I can tell the difference between 75Hz and 85 Hz monitor refreshes. 75 is uncomfortable, and 85 and up is acceptable, for me.

Yeah, anything lower then 85hz hurts my eyes after like a few seconds.

I run my desktop at 1152x864 with a 75 Hz RR. Anything below 75 gives me a splitting headache, heck, if I work at my computer long enough, 75 even hurts. I wish my monitor could hit higher refresh rates [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Arghhhh, what's with people using 1280x1024, it's a non-standard resolution. Thanks to the excessive use of this evil resolution half the games out today don't even support the far superior and technically accurate 1280x960!

I've had my moniter for over 7 years and I've been using 1024x768 display for over a year now. Before, I only used that resolution for applications that required more screen room (ie 3dsmax, Maya, Radient, Flash, Etc.) but after a while, I've gotten used to it and left it in that resolution, despite having a small moniter (14" moniter - font is REALLY tiny on my system, hehehe). My family thinks I'm CRAZY to have it set to that because they are used to using 800x600 but I've always just laugh at them when they tell me. My moniter doesn't support anything over 1024x768 so I can't go higher than that (even if I could, my moniter is already too freaking small anyway).

I don't know, but I agree. I just use it because it's the highest my computer will go (not sure if that's a monitor issue or video card... I would assume video card)

A 60 Hz refresh is just painful. Very painful. At least to my eyes. Even buggered up my vision a little. I can't see up close nearly too well as before. So I switched to 72 Hz and never looked back...if you can find a pun, it wasn't intended.

Here at the Help Desk @ school I have a 15" flat panel running @ 1280x1024. Unfortunately I have to run it at 60 Hz otherwise I get distortion. Bleh.

I doubt its your video card... Mines around 2-3 almost 4 years old (tech wise) and it can support hertz rates at resolutions that my monitor could only dream of. aka 85hz at 1200x1600 or whatever.

1024x768 at 85Hz. At 60Hz the screen flickers quite noticably, particularly because anybody who uses it starts screaming and clawing at their eyeballs. It's hard to miss.

Gandalf: LCDs and CRTs refresh in entirely different ways. 60Hz isn't comparable between the two.

I run at either 1024 x 768 @ 100hz, or 1280 x 960 @ 85hz, or 1600 x 1200 @ 75hz, or if need be for some image editing etc, 2048 x 1536 @ 60hz... little painful at that res though.

Why the hell does everything use 1280x1024? It's not even 4:3 ratio, meaning everything is actually stretched!

Anyway, I have to run it for my LCD. But I run 2 monitors at that res, so [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
