Halloween 2005
2005-02-14, 2:42 PM #1
Well, as you MAY know, I do extravagant things for my Halloween displays. Some times I need more time to develope it than others. For instace, Last year I did House of 1000 Copses, which I started planning nearly a year before hand. 2003, however, I did Texas Chainsaw, and that took about 2 weeks.

This Thred is to commemorate the start of something great, Halloween 2005.

Here's a breif history.

2003 - Leatherface. Me and my brother hand sewed the mask out of rawhide dog chews, so it was ACTUALLY a leather face. The leather face was then sewed on to an altered michael meyers mask (for the hair and ears). We then made a quick body suit, hung red lights and chains in the garage, got a chainsaw and a smoke machine and went at it.

2004 - House of 1000 Corpses. Things got a little more professional this time around. We actually had to make our own masks out of laytex. This required me to sculpt them in clay, then cast them in Ultracal-30. We also had to rig a pulley system to balance Dr. Satan's mechanical arms. For the display, we re-enacted the scene in House of 1000 Corpses when she stumbles upon Dr. Satan and Earl. so we had both costumes... including the dead guy Dr.Satan was operating on. Over all, it went over much better.

2005 - Legacy of Kain. Things seem to evolve each year. A few months ago, I got to work on a Stephin King Film entitled "Popsy". It wasn't a big production (one of his smaller releases) but it was still a good story. It was here I made my first Foam Laytex Appliance and Vampire Fangs. I used this experience this time around for my Halloween plans. This year will include Foam Laytex face appliances (what they use in film). I have just finished my Head sculpt for Kain (on MY life cast - yes, I WILL be Kain). It looks really good. Still to come are Raziel, Turel, and Malchiah. We are thinking of setting the garage up like the opening to SR1... the Pillars scene.

I will post Pictures here possibly tomorrow for your enjoyment.

I was Link in 2004. I'm thinking about going again as Link. Only this time, I'll spend more time on the costume and improve it. Also, I'm want to see if I have any sorts of crafting skills and make me the Master Sword.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Last year I went to a Halloween party as a old man. People who weren't there thought I was male when they looked at the pictures.

I'm not so sure whether or not that's a good thing....

the gray areas in the picture will of course be my face with make up and face paint on it, where as the white will be the foam laytex appliance. This soft appliance will be glued to my face, so when I talk, Kain's lips will move.. when I blink, Kain will blink... when I look angry.. well, u get the idea ;)

Yes.. Keep in mind, I am already behind where I was last year... we started planning halloween 2004 the night of halloween 2003... and we stil barely finished in time... You are forgetting that there are 5 charactors we need to make.. all with facial appliances.. which means we need 5 head casts and time to sculpt them the way I need them. also we gotta do the costumes themselves.. kain would look dumb in a GAP T shirt.... Also, we need to make the "SET" if you will... and we also need to make the props.. like the soul reaver blade... gotta lot of work to do in 8 short months..

I am even more stoked.

I cannot wait to see a final product. You should make a website to document your progress.

We bought a pumpkin in October last year. We didn't carve it. That same pumpkin is STILL around and hasn't even BEGUN to rot yet. If it lasts until this October, it will officially be the best pumpkin EVER.

Awesome work Spiral! By the way, whats it made of?

Well, we used Alginate to take the cast of my head, since it is a soft mold material... we also had to make a plaster backing for it, because if you don't have one, the alginate is TOO soft, and it blows up like a balloon when u put anything in it. After this was done, we poured Ultracal-30 into the mold, and when it was dry, we pulled it out, and it was an exact copy of my head. (minus the hair... I had to put on a bald skin cap so the alginate wouldn't get in my hair.) Then I took an oil based clay and began sculpting over my face. (I think Water Based would be better for this, cause it smooths easier... but I had oil based.. oh well..) anyway, these are pictures of the clay sculptire over my Ultracal-30 Clone head. Next we put more Ultracal over the clay sculpture and make a "NEGATIVE" mold... when this is done, we take the negative mold off, and then peel all the clay off of my Ultracal head, so it is clean again... so when we put the Ultracal replica of my head into the Negative mold of the clay sculpture, it creates a negative space inside where all the clay was.... This we will fill with Foam Laytex, and when it's done, we will pull it out, and HURRAY!! a foam laytex mask of Kain..
