Having trouble running the Republic Commando Demo- need help!
2005-02-14, 5:10 PM #1
I am having a problem running the Republic Commando demo. First it prompted me that it needed the newest DirectX drivers to run it, which in this case is 9.0c. Okay, I downloaded it and now I have that. But now, I get the error box that says, "Insufficient Pixel shader detected on your display adapter. Republic Commando requires Pixel shader 1.1 or higher, do you want to continue?" Help! What can I do to correct this problem? Is there a way to download a patch to restore the pixel shader, or to just download the pixel shader, or what? What must I do? Please help me!

What kind of video card do you have? It's probably not able to run the game.
Pissed Off?

Yup, sounds like you have either a really old or integrated graphics card. Gonna need a new one most likely.

What video card do you have at the moment?

Okay, I think I have your answer. It has something to do with it being an NVidia, isn't it? Those bastards! Yes, I have a
HP Pavilion PC with an NVidia GeForce4 MX 420. That's what's wrong, isn't it?

That card is crap. Don't blame Nvidia though, they didn't buy the PC for you. Blame whoever thought a HP computer was a good one.

Yeah, that graphics card simply won't do. Any idea whether your PC has an AGP slot or not?

Probably, but I don't exactly have the money right now to buy a new card. Oh, well. Scratch yet another Star Wars game I can't play. First KOTOR, now Republic Commando. LucasArts just makes Star Wars games worse and worse to play. I may have to take a little bit of a game sabbatical and then come back and re-install one that still runs on my machine. Maybe I'll get to buy myself a copy of Jedi Academy- I never did get a copy of it, anyway. Have Jedi Outcast, though, but Single Player has gotten so boring. I can't stand playing the same storyline over and over, even with a zillion SP mods; haven't been any new SP maps for a LONG time, either. Oh, well. Thanks for everyone's input and help.

So...games from LucasArts get worse and worse when they have more demand for better graphics...?

It wont let me play because when I try to run the game it gives me the "illegal operation" crap. Anyone know what this means?
