So why exactly would you want to pay more for something you can get legally for free?
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

http://www.allofmp3.com

It's legal in some countries, but I can't be bothered to find out which ones. They have a great selection, but you probably won't see much, if anything, go to the artists.

winmx is good.

p2p is nothing compared to what some people I know can get off of direct ftp/http downloads. All the good stuff is on public and private servers.

Heh, what else could they be on?

iTunes doesn't download in an MP3 format, though it's incredibly easy to convert it. Secondly, if someone doesn't have any compuncture against not paying for their music, then why would they bother with iTunes?

I can't stand p2p services like Kazaa. Download speeds are simple horrid (if you're lucky enough to find any peers that actually let you download) and a good deal of the time you'll find "fake" files such as mp3s with no sound of videos with no picture.

Dave, you can buy music at archambault.ca, but like Flex said, why bother paying for something that you can get legally for free?
2005-02-15, 7:42 AM #15
Because it may not necessarily be an issue of legality?

Well, there is a program out there that you use in conjunction with itunes such that if you are on a school network and lots of other people have the programs, you can get lots of music really fast illegally.

I don't think I'm breaking the rules yet...

Oh, I'm well aware of such a program. My friends have been begging me to install it and turn off my firewall so that they can get access to my music.

Because you can actually get the complete, unadulterated, official, decent quality song within 5 seconds of clicking Confirm.

I'm not saying that iTunes is bad. I've spent in excess of $80 on the thing. I'm simply postulating the reasons why someone wouldn't like iTunes.

I just use the DC++ hub me, my roommate, and two other people set up on UT's network last year. We are up to an average of 350 users and about 15TB...I remember the first day when we had 10 people.

It's funny walking around campus and people asking me if I am the admin riiviin from the hub.
"She turned me into a newt!"
Pause
"Well I got better..."

In my first year at uni I remember the people running the dc++ hub having to upgrade it because they were always hitting the 500 user capacity.

Torrents are fast. You have to configure your router to make them fast. 99.999 % of the time torrents are slow because people don't have enough ports open, the right ports open, or any ports open at all. I get CONSISTENT 500KB/s on most torrents, from where I get them. And if it isn't from one of those "places", I get around 100-200.
