Come and ask your questions at The Massassi MMORPG FAQ...
2005-02-15, 5:03 AM #1
Ok people, start posting your questions, and I'll soon start answering them, all you hav't to do ask about the developing game.

UPDATE: Now that I've actually got the engine source code, all the things that I said I couldn't do before, I can most likely do now.
Nothing to see here, move along.

This is the topic where people come and start asking questions about the Massassi MMORPG I'm developing, since the other topic would be kinda bad for that.

meh... question..... hmmmm....
you gonna release or link us (or at least me, because im interested in this) to the game engine and source code?

what weapons will their be? items?

can you customise your character? how so or to what extent?

/end interrogation

Before I continue on questions I would like to make these statments:
- I'am using a modifiable compiled version of the engine
- I'am making a new engine which will have all the things we'll want in it
- What I cannot do in the compiled version of the engine, doesn't mean I can't do my own version of the engine.

FIRST QUESTIONS:

Q:Will it be based off of NeS?
A:What is NeS?

Q:You gonna release or link us to the game engine and source code?
A:Well, I can't release my version of the engine source code, the agreement license forbids it, but I can release a modifiable compiled version of the engine, sometime in the future and/or link you to the orginal source code. PM me for link.

Q:What weapons will their be?
A:Well, it will be a large variety of weapons. Since in this forum we speak of a large variety. Unfortunately, I can't make any ranged weapons at the moment, I will fix this in my version.

Q:What items will their be?
A:Keys, (Expect a housing system for this soon), spells, (unfortunately can only be used when found in this version) potions, money, and a few others

Q:Can you customise your character?
A:In both versions you will be able to do so, but read on.

Q:How so or to what extent?
A:In the first version the only customizable characters will be between male and female. In the second I will try to have 3d characters with fully customizable clothes, skins, eyes, figures, beards, etc...

More questions?
Nothing to see here, move along.

NeS is the short-hand term to refer to the Never-ending Story thread, which many people were mentioning in your other thread and which can be found on the Interactive Story Board. The links you'd need can be found in my signature.

NeS, while in its own right a story of its own, also does well to carry the spirit of the people here on Massassi in general.

If there are specifics you need, I and many writers are around to help. The NeS workshop thread is a good place to get a hold of some of the more hermit-like writers.

I don't think I want to base it off of that in the first version, I was thinking more of the old forum war topic in the past. I remember a guy called something like John that used a fish to slap people. That was marvaluos!

We tend to be skeptical about any large project. The more progress you show, the more people will likely speak up.

Well, let me put it this way. I can't release any screenshots to the forums because, I'm in a Beta stage right now, and I've invited a few people already, havn't I Brian? And so when we get somethings we'll consider utterly PERMANENT, we'll start posting. Mean while, ask questions, speculate, etc, etc, look, lots of people doubted the DBZ:TC for JK, and guess what? It was released after all. So don't be all that doubting, its coming alright, its coming.

Uh, I've never heard of this until just now, so I'm pretty confused.

1) What exactly is this?

2) How far in developement is it?

3) Do you think my computer (633 mhz Celeron processor, 128 ram) will run it?

Q:What exactly is this?
It is an MMORPG (Massassive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) where you can be a charcter from some of the games/mods/movies such as:
JediKnight
ROX-TC
Lotr
Any many, many more.

Q:2) How far in developement is it?
A:Currently, I'm fixing s bug in class#3, the old compiled engine will do fine for meanwhile. While you have fun with it, a new and improved engine will zip right in with better graphics, playability, and tons of more options.

Q:3) Do you think my computer (633 mhz Celeron processor, 128 ram) will run it?
A:I'm sure it will, if you have your VB runtime files up to date.

Beta refers to software that is fully functional, meaning all core features are complete. The only things remaining are bug fixes and perhaps some smaller, optional features that are yet to be added. I would consider Knights of the Old Republic II to be typical beta quality of a game that would be excellent when finished.

Emon, where did you get that idea? My dad has done Betas before, and it was all about finding bugs, saying what should be changed, what's convient, etc etc, and I'm trying to do what he's doing as well, nevertheless, I'll post some pics soon.

It's common knowledge among software developers and misused much among users. It's really best to just describe it as an early build, late build, very early build, etc. Labels are confusing. Click.

Q: Which engine are you talking about? Jedi Knight?
Q: Have you ever coded anything 3d in your life?
Q: What the hell kind of a massassi story line can it have? "Level 200 quest: Get laid"?
Q: Have you taken in account of server cost, issues, etc?
Q: Have you ever had any experience with networking, net protocol, etc, ever?
Q: Is this a joke?

and finally

Q: *WILL* you be able to eat large quanities of cheese?

A massassi RPG will fail. An NeS RPG has far greater possibilities, but would be harder. At least it'd have a hope though.

1.- PM me for that question, I can't say publicly.
2.- Yeah, once... and I'm not the only programmer here, I have a whole PB forum, and my Dad, who has done mostly PB,VB, HTML (Not thats hard to learn or anything) and a little Assembler.
3.- LOL! Well, a story line... Do we really need one? I mean can't we do something like "Trekkies V.S. Jedi" or "Zelda V.S. Mario Bro.s" etc... LOL! If you really want a story, that would be to become strong, raise a strong guild, and take over the lands (this will be possible)
4.- I do not think hundreds of people are going to rush into this game, and I'll find a way. (School server)
5.- Not much, my Dad however has, and my neighbor (friend of my brother) does networking, but I don't need all this since I already have a very good and working, almost flawless. server software.
6.-No, in fact, the Beta testing will start this week.
7.-Yes, but, what for?

Fantastic! An RPG with absolutelly no ROLES to play! The amazing "Compile all of my favorite things into a 'video game' on some illegal and scandal-trendy engine that I stole! The alpha beta testing that brian will be there (so it seems official) of a couple of crap-scripts I threw together!" - game. I'm sorry, but it sounds like you're a kiddy scripter who thinks that they're going to become well known in the massassi community by giving us something that has a few massassian's names, a couple of inside jokes, and maybe some references to a couple of somewhat cool video games/movies.

To be completely honest, it sounds like you have no clue what you're getting yourself into. Have you ever tried making a single player rpg with one of the rpg makers? If you have, you'd know the tremendous amount of work even just that takes to get a decent single player game.

Please, prove me wrong, I'd love to map/script for this if it ever starts coming into fruition. But by shutting out the community, you make it hard for anyone to help (and you will need it).

That sounded somewhat like a threat... not a good way to respond to someone who is only questioning your judgement of your abilities as a game designer. I invite you to prove me wrong, but threatening me will get you no where.
