Atari is developing and publishing The Matrix: Path of Neo, an interactive console and PC game based on The Matrix movie trilogy from Warner Bros. Pictures. The Matrix: Path of Neo is slated for worldwide release in Q4 2005 and will be available on the PlayStation 2, the Xbox and the PC.

The Matrix: Path of Neo marks the second collaboration of Atari and its Shiny Entertainment development studio; the Wachowski Brothers, creators of The Matrix trilogy; and Joel Silver, producer of the trilogy. In May 2003, Atari released Enter The Matrix, a parallel timeline to The Matrix Reloaded and a bridge to The Matrix Revolutions, which debuted at No.1 at gaming charts around the world and has sold nearly 6 million units worldwide to date.

Set in the Matrix universe, The Matrix: Path of Neo will enable players to actually play as Neo, the central character, and relive his most important and memorable scenarios from the complete film trilogy, including the original film, The Matrix. Throughout the game, the path the player takes to resolve each scenario and the resulting consequences will be scripted and directed by the Wachowski Brothers. The likenesses of all of the films' key actors - including Keanu Reeves ("Neo"), Laurence Fishburne ("Morpheus"), Carrie-Ann Moss ("Trinity), and Hugo Weaving ("Agent Smith") - will be featured in The Matrix: Path of Neo, which will also include footage from all three feature films, as well as The Animatrix.

According to Atari's CEO Jim Caparro in Path of Neo gamers will get their ...first chance to personally relive Neo's journey, and the chance to experience new adventures they cannot yet even imagine.

They're letting Shiny develop another Matrix game? Even after what happened with Enter the Matrix? Dear God, why?
I bet you think that's funny, don't you.

There will, however, only be one path through the 'Coma' level.

I enjoyed Enter the Matrix.
Think while it's still legal.

enter the matrix should never have been allowed to be released in the shape it was in. it's inexcusable.

I remember all the hype that went with Enter the Matrix: all the magazine covers I saw seemed to suck up to it.

*shrugs*

Never played it.

Shiny. How the mighty have fallen.

From MDK and Sacrifice to this. At least all of the MDK crew are now working at Planet Moon (Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Armed & Dangerous)
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Cool spot --> Earthworm Jim --> MDK

Shiny were just amazing back in the day.

I wonder what I did with my copy of MDK? I used to have it on my P100...

I liked Enter the Matrix, it was fun.

Enter the Matrix had pretty fun hand to hand combat, but other than that it was kinda bleh.

Enter the Matrix wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. I though it was average. I don' t have much hope for this Neo game though.....

ETM wasn't the game it should, or could have been. That's not to say it wasn't a great game, though.

Shiny rocks, but only when they aren't pressured with a release date (like with EtM). Hopefully they'll receive less pressure, and be able to make a quality game this time around

Well, granted it's 2005, there won't be a press for a movie. There may be a holiday press, but I think they can push anything around if they really want.

Enter The Matrix was by no means a great game, but I found it to be very fun. If my Xbox wasn't broke I'd still play it from time to time.

It's just been announced, and it will be released by the end of the year?

Doesn't that indicate a smaller development window than Enter the Matrix? A game which spanned just one Matrix movie.

The fact that it will be co-developed for the already aging Playstation 2 doesn't sound promising either.

Mistic AK Predicts "crap!"

[edit: There's no mention of Shiny in there either, just Atari.]

No mention whatsoever.

In fairness, loads of games have been developed for years before finally being announced. Example, Half-Life 2. Baldurs Gate 2 had quite a short "known" development span, it was actually released about two months ahead of schedule too. There are plenty of examples to show that development time is only very loosely related to quality of game.

Enter the Matrix wasn't really that bad. It was fun for a bit, until it got boring about halfway through.

The Wachowski br....er Wachowskis were huge fans of splinter cell. I had huge hopes that the gameplay for enter the matrix would be similar, or at least the fluidity of movement and the graphics quality. I partially have the same hope for this game, but I'm not holding my breath, besides chaos theory is out in a couple months anyway :D
