I spilt beer on my keyboard
2005-02-17, 4:27 AM #1
...a couple of weeks ago and it's been slowly dying ever since. Here is part of a conversation I had with happydud last night -

maevie says:
<maeve|bed> my kbboard es ****ed
Happy "Legitimately Legit" dud says:
Ah
Happy "Legitimately Legit" dud says:
Okay
Happy "Legitimately Legit" dud says:
Haha.. .That's pretty funny
Happy "Legitimately Legit" dud says:
So you're just copying and pasting things? (yes no)
maevie says:
yes
Happy "Legitimately Legit" dud says:
Glee. Happydud is the best person in the entire universe ( yes )

I took it apart and properly washed all the non-electrical bits which are now drying. I am currently typing on my keyboard's rather more complicated version of this. It turns out it's alot harder to touchtype when you have no keys.

It should, but I've done it loads of times... I did it just two days ago. I just make sure I clean it right away.

Tip to save your keyboard from getting drowned...

As soon as you spill something on your keyboard turn off the computer and turn the keyboard upside down immediately and wait for about and hour or two.

That will save keyboards. I know from experience.

How many ruined keyboards does it take to devise a strategy of how to save them in case of beer spills? :p

No, it just would have been fried. A friend of mine spilled a shot on a keyboard, and there were apparently some parts of it that fused together.

I could never figure out those crazy brit keyboards myself when I was over there. I found myself copying and pasting a couple of times because I couldnt find the right keys.
2005-02-17, 8:11 AM #15
They use something other than QWERTY?

It's slightly different. I dont recall exactly, but the symbols above the number keys are different, and the non-letter symobls are all moved around.

A few moments after reading this thread, I opened a new 2 litre bottle of soda. Remembering that my glass was next to my bed, I set the bottle down on my desk. I grabbed my glass, and when I came back the bottle had turned into a volcano, spewing foam and carbonation everywhere including, yes, onto my keyboard. Seems to be fine though...

But is it cordless and ergonomic enough? You see, there's cordless...and then there's CORDLESS FREEDOM KEYBOARD!! Same applies to ergonomy.

just to highlight how hard this is -

<Flirbnic> How does that work, anyways?
<Flirbnic> Are you actually touching the circuits?
<maevie> it's two plastic sheets with the circuitry on, separated by one sheet with holes where the dots are
<maevie> it took me 3 mins to type that
<happydud> wow
<happydud> that's slow. :p
<maevie> when i press a dot the live sheets connect

I spilled green goo in my keyboard once. It survived. Although that was several keyboards ago. Several houses ago, for that matter. I was like 8.

I just have this to say--ergonomic keyboards = the SUCKS. Seriously, I hate those things with a passion. They end up giving me cramps and or wrist pains after using them. QWERTY for life.

Yeah, me too. Espcially those ones which try to help by being round/chopped in two/angled strangly. It's a marketing gimmic :p

Yup, I'd rather have a plain ol' keyboard, then one that has 5ft of plastic infront of it.

Not at all. the keys on mine are angled to naturally fit my fingers in a line going from my elbows to home row.

except, as dud said, it doesn't have any keys right now!
