Anyone tried out 'BrainBreed'? (HL1 Zombie Mod)

Just played it last night. Not bad, but its got some flaws and seems to be missing something.

While the grisly area specific zombie damage is pretty interesting, and they do a good job of surrounding you if you aren't careful...I don't like that they spawn right up out of the floor and that it seems to take like 10 shots to the head to take them down....or rather, the definition of head on the hitbox is really to narrow.

Player controlled zombies: To damn fast! WTF is with this, they can run faster than living humans by quite a bit. I know it'd be boring to play a zombie if you were just a regular one, but it shouldn't be hard for a player packing a shotgun to take down a zombie with no weapons.

I never really liked XP systems in FPS games.

You pretty much never run out of ammo...and if you do, more is easy to find. This probably bothers me the most...while I love blowing zombies apart I had the idea that it would be more along the lines of the movies: Very little ammo, not enough to take out all the zombies...you have to use creative ways to hold them at bay.

It can be kind of scary when your shotgun runs out of ammo, and you instinctively fall back to reload...then realize you've backed yourself into a corner. You're surrounded! :D

How does it compare to the ZombieMod for CS 1.6? God, that was so much fun.

BrainBread*

I've played it solo, it's ok hehehe.

But I kept running into ammo shortages. I can't seem to find all the ammo you mention.

Hows the "GOREgeous" system? How specific is the damage? Better or worst then SOF?

I've played it , a great Deal of fun, the problem is its a bit too easy once you learn to play,

mainly because of Poor AI, but the only way the could fix that is by change to HL2

It's pretty fun, however it gets really easy when you start racking up XP. The damage system isn't as good as SoF, but it's still better than many of the games on the market right now.

Yeah, I haven't played SoF so I couldn't comment there. But it appears to just be an interesting graphical effect. Basically you can blow of limbs, chunks of torsos, and segments of the heads. Which really just serves to tell you if you hit or missed the head, since body shots have only a minimal effect. I would have liked to see zombies that were cut in half by bullets continue to crawl towards you....instead they just appear to explode.

I was still expecting a gameplay style more along the lines of They Hunger...where you've got like two pistol clips and thus shooting all the zombies isn't worth it. Instead you save that ammo for tight spots. In this there's quite a bit of ammo.

However, last night me and another guy ended up cornered in a relatively open area and that was great fun. I'd some how ended up with the double barrel and the magnum and I believe he just had a pistol...maybe a shotgun too. Anyway, the double barrel and magnum take forever to reload...and we could barely keep the zombies at bay. I frequently found myself out of ammo and reloading as a zombie with half a head came at me. It would be about to get me and its head would blow off, my teammate seeing my distress and dispatching it at the last moment. I returned the favor quite a few times when a zombie managed to get around behind him without him noticing. Eventually we were overrun, but we held out for a very long time.

Unfortunately, gameplay is rarely like that it seems. Its fun, but more like serious sam kind of fun than what I wanted.

I'm not sure why Grim Zombie would play a zombie...or why anyone would with the exception of trying to return to human form. They're pretty boring to play. Some people do though.

Mega_ZZTer: The ammo wasn't immediately obvious to me either, there are crates scattered about on most levels that when activated give you ammo.

I've never played zombie mod for CS...the only other zombie mod I came across was zombie panic...which looked quite inferior to this since it didn't appear to have any AI zombies. You started with one zombie human. I couldn't see how that would be that interesting....especially if you got shafted as the one slow moving zombie against 9 other well armed humans.
