I never would have thought it would be possible to rationally dissect 13375[]D34|< like that in a way a normal person could understand. I've got to admit, whoever wrote that did a good job. What's impressive is that someone decided it needed to be written at all.

How exactly is the word "pwn3d" considered to be a "leet word possibly indicating illegal activity"?

Is that why ***** is censored?

Haha, this is all part of the hilarious attempt to "protect children from the internet". These sorts of absurdities are usually found in tabloids lacking newsworthy items, I'm somewhat surprised to see this coming from Microsoft. I suppose hopping on the bandwagon will be good for business, for a while.

I love how in every single article its "online video games". Doesn't the writer know that most games have a SP portiton to it? :p

But thats unfair to online bullies, how are they going to bully little kids if we disable "p3wd" as a word. They'll be very upset. They might start "bullying" us online. :(

The submit button was actually broken, but I WAS going to post this:

You don't seem to understand the utter uselessness of what you've probably spent countless paychecks on. Leet speech, or any form of internet slang is used for comical usage, satire, ease of typing, or in videogames to be 'new and original.' There's nothing parents need to know, or will benifit from knowing about leet speech, or any internet language. Maybe Microsoft Paychecks would be better spent feeding poor people in America's streets, the same kids who chew on silicon chips before they go to bed!

Where have all the recycled PCs gone? Gone to hungry mouths one by one! Oh when will we ever learn? Oh when will we ever learn?

Honestly, I think the seriousness that Microsoft presented this with is hilarity in itself despite the fact that people genuinely talk like that and find it cool. Though I guess some find me strange to think that social ineptitude is funny...

I generally don't go out of my way for such things, but this is ridiculous. Half the reason we have obscurely miseducated parents being detrementally overprotective, paranoid, or generally stirring up drama out of nothing is because of articles like this that provide not-completely-subjective-sounding information that spurs these parents who for some reason seem to believe they are 'in the know' and 'in control' when they really have no idea what is going on.

It'd be a great favor to everyone, and people like me in particular whom these parents come to going "oh my god listen to this <insert some inane point of drama here>" to which I must respond "sir or madam, you have no idea what you are talking about; thus, I must ask you stop making a fool out of yourself" -- if mispresented information like this would STOP BEING PUBLISHED.

Why do parents care if their child is being annoyed online?

It's online. They are not actually getting beat up. "Griefers" are merely annoying, not damaging. Unless your child has extreme anger problems and will hunt down and kill a griefer (and in that case, I'd do a bit more than prevent griefers) it's not a problem.

To be honest, I think a parent has every right to be concerned if their kids start talking about warez.

Some of your feedback things have been downright childish.

They sure do, but I don't believe they'll go: "Hmm, I wonder what Microsoft thinks I should do about my child" then somehow manage to find that page.

I agree with Detty here- the article explains the concept of leetspeak to parents, and teachs them how to read some of it, so that they can be sure that younger kids aren't getting into anything illegal. I don't really see any problem with it.

What you forget is that a lot of 'warez' online is only illegal in the US. Plenty of it is perfectly legal once you go to Canada or European countries, not to mention Asia, Africa, and South America (mostly music, but still)
