Death is his only salvation, execute him.

i would have had the kid appear in court just to give the appearance of a fair legal system then after the trial straight to the castration room then off to live the rest of his life in a dark room alone with the same crappy song playing on an endless loop

That is, quite possibly, the worst thing I've ever read. Torture, no trials, guilty until proven innocent... so when do you ship out to Guantanamo?

Do people think this kid was just "born bad" or what? Obviously there are issues we don't know about, because healthy adjusted 12 year olds do not murder their grandparents then burn their house down. The kid should not be tried as an adult (because he's NOT an adult), he should not be executed (because it's barbaric), he should receive a trial, and he should have whatever his mental issues are tended to, whatever the outcome of his trial. That's what a free and just society does.

I agree completely.

Brain chemistry is a funny thing. It's different from person to person. This kid is clearly insane,

No, the logic is, "He is a single, solitary case. The fact that x out of x users do not do these things indicates that the blame does not lie with the drug."

I take Tylenol for a headache, and then run over fifteen people. It was the Tylenol, I swear!

Then it's up to him to make these issues known, because no other surviving member of his family can testify as to the treatment he received from his grandparents. As far as anyone knows, he murdered with full intent in cold blood because they sent him to his room.

While I understand (and agree) that he should receive a full, fair trial, what does the fact that a society is free have anything to do with it?

You aren't free if the government can castrate children and then lock them in a box for the rest of their life. Even worse if they don't even have to give someone a trial to do it...

Absolutely. That he has confessed to the killings, but not plead guilty, implies that an insanity or mental defect defense will be used; either that the kid's obviously suffering from severe mental problems, or he's too young to be charged as an adult. We'll find out more as the trial progresses...

Incidentally, what's the point of even having "being charged as an adult" when EVERYONE gets charged as an adult? Or is this so all those four year old murderers can be charged as children?

I used to be on similiar drugs when I was that age, and I can EASILY say with confidence that some silly stuff like getting sent to your room is enough to make you snap only to lose yourself in a blind rage and not realize what I was doing untill later.

Me, I just broke things in my room.

He decided to go get a shot gun.

Drugs affect different people in different ways. While I feel it's silly to rule out the drug's role in the murder I also see the importance of trying him with the possibility of severe punishment which just isn't offered in the juvenile system.

It's amazingly crazy the way they just shove pills down kid's throats these days.

Forcing your idea of what it is to be normal on someone is lame.

But he didn't, and he's already been sentenced to the minimum 30 years.

The kid will be in jail for the rest of his life, regardless. They gave him thirty years for each murder (Already a total of 60), and he's going to be tried for arson. Chances are, he'll die before he even reaches 70, but he won't ever be getting out.
Guess what? Yep, that's right. No, no, really, it's right. Think it's wrong? You're right, it's wrong. Know why? 'Cause it is

IE, all of them at the same time.

Yes, and most of the kids who take such drugs probably don't need them, they're just prescribed because they do work and are cheaper than therapy.

However, this doesn't mean that there aren't people with a genuine need for the drugs.

Therapy is there because parents don't have time for the kids, and the drugs are there because they're cheaper, money and time wise.

And yes, some people need to be medicated. I'm not, but I probably should be, as I tend to get panic attacks and minor seizures. Am I depressed? No, I'm pretty damned happy with myself and my life.

Do the crime do the time, I do not care if this person was 10 and he did it. The thought process was there, and it was his choice to execute his grandparents and cover it up! He should not be given any leeway on the matter, this deserves either a padded cell with contsant beatings or death row. So many people have got away with murder because they are "Mentaly unstable" and what erks me even more is the lawyers who stand up for the murderers and criminals, lying through thier back teeth just to get money! It is a sick world we live in and I'm disgusted that a 12 year old had the the thought process to go and kill the contibutors to his life! With out them he wouldn't be around!

Well, there has to be some lawyer to represent and defend them in trials.

Way should someone who is completely known to have comited the crime then have a lawyer say that he's not guilty! That just isn't right.

Then why should we bother to have trials to determine just punishment for them? And, they aren't criminals until they are sent throught court and represented.

Because everyone deserves a fair trial. What if the accused is innocent? Without a trial, we may not determine this (if at all) until too late.

No, it's not. True justice is a punishment perfectly equal to the crime comitted. Bringing drugs and/or mental issues into the idea is merely blanketing the true concept of justice.

Therapy != justice.
Rehabilitation != justice.

Therapy and rehabilitation should be used to prevent convincted criminals from committing crimes after they've paid for their crimes.

I'd really like to know how anyone can see therapy and rehabilitation is justice.

These are pretty basic (and pretty obvious) concepts that have unfortunately somehow gotten lost in modern society.

I see it in certain cases where the criminal is eventually let out. I would like to see a reformed person who realizes the grave actions he/she made than someone who hasn't changed and stikes again.

The kid presents himself as a danger to society, it is society's duty to protect itself by keeping the kid from killing again.

Whether that will take 6-9 years or more, I don't know. Whether our prison system has the ability to rehabilitate, I also do not know.
