Resident Evil 4 is awesome

Spew your fanboy love here.

My favorite part of this game is when I die, to be quite honest. When I all of the sudden, unexpectedly get my head sawed off or bitten off. The shock value is awesome.

The game really isn't scary at all, but it does give you a rush sometimes when everything is coming at you. I've never really felt frustrated enough to quit because every situation seems doable, it just that I didn't do it right.

So far AAA++++ and I'm still on the first disc!

"Good" good, or "better than the other Resident Evil games" good?

WTF

The controls are AMAZING good. Seriously, this is how my game should play. It makes me feel like I'm controlling an FPS without...being...an FPS. It's very nice.

Yeah, the chainsaw...ah...

I'm at the part with the first guy with claws, yes I know you fight two of them down the road . Fun.

Exactly. My argument is just that with this 'RE4.' Everyone says "OH EMM GEE, THIS GAME R TEH BEST OF TEH YEER!" except they're all basing their opinions off of the previous games. Yes, when swimming in gell, not being able to shoot something a foot in front of you without clipping it, having to find a deck of cards just to get out of a mansion you tend to enjoy it when you can suddenly be normal and average.

In comparison to all of the other games, RE4 is awesome. But when you compair it to a game like MGS, it's subpar if anything.

There are some red canisters on the wall that will freeze the beast. Whenever he comes at you, RUN to one of these canisters and knock it over. It freezes the thing, and you can kick the crap out of it.

1) When you compare almost any game to MGS, it's subpar.

2) Have you even played the game?

3) I only played RE2, and some of RE3.

I never played any other RE game for more than 3 minutes, so my comparisons are in fact based on all other games, including MGS, which I *did* play (and did not perticularly enjoy).

I have played a great many shooters, and I am definitely not comparing the game to previous Resident Evils, with which I am not familiar. Yet I think it's awesome.

MGS3 and MGS: The Twin Snakes (which is MGS1)

I haven't played MGS3, can't comment.

MGS:Twin Snakes is NOT MGS1. The voice acting is horrible in comparison, the characters...I dunno, not as defined as they were in the first one. The feel is off.

But I doubt you're going to pick up a nearly 10 year old PS1 title just because I say its better, so hey :p

I have played RE4... and hopefully I'll get enough money to buy a cube and RE4.

In comparison to the other games, this is much better. That's not to say that I didn't like all of the other titles but I liked it when I tried it at my friend's house.

Chaz: The controls in this are a lot better thatn the controls in the other RE titles.(except for Dead Aimn which no one is to speak of!)

Do not compare this game to MGS 3, to me, they both have excellent qualilties. Yoshi: You really need to try MGS 3, better than a barrel of monkeys, and it even has that(except for the barrel).

Edit: Oops, contradicted myself.
No sig.

It's the most enjoyable third person shooter I have played in quite a long time. My friend is playing through it for the third time, and he still has a blast doing it. The controls are great, I didn't have any issues with them other than a few minor inventory management things. The atmosphere is outstanding, and the monsters and enemies in the game, while obviously inspired by things featured in other games and films (cave trolls, face huggers, the Thing) are so much fun to fight. My personal favorite enemy in the game is are the Los Regenerados. Those ****ing things were so creepy when you could see them and hear them as they walked towards you. I'm about ready to pop in disc 1 again and play through on professional mode.

Rob- I know. I just keep uh.. well.. Not kicking the crap out of him enough, I guess.

I'm also running quite quite quite low on ammo.

which is bad. :p

DJ Yoshi- There's a trick to killing them, and it isn't loading them full of steel. IM me if you want to know it. I only figured it out at the second part where you fight two. I figured it out.. after.. I killed them. And wasted all of my ammo. :p

I've heard that you can't move and shoot at the same time. Is there any truth to this?

It's been like that in every Resident Evil game ever. They do it tastefully though, and the game isn't a FPS.

Oh, I couldn't remember. I haven't played a Resident Evil game since the original was remade for the Gamecube.

What about the chainsaw? Can move and swing that around, or do you have to stand in place with that too, and hope your enemy walks up to you? (And if they do walk up to you when you have a chainsaw, how smart, or challenging, can they really be? But this is a problem in many games, so meh)

You don't get a chainsaw. But trust me, there's a reason to not being able to move and shoot at the same time--you couldn't hit anything anyways.

Chaz, I see where you're coming from, but stop before you walk too far into a blind alley.

You just can't compare this game to the old RE games of shoot/non walk mode and such.

Think of this as being the Zelda, Ocarina of time to Zelda: Link's awakening for RE.

In a sense, it's a totally new game with aspects of the old one that makes it absolutely fantastically superior in almost every sense.

yes, you can't shoot and move at teh same time, yes you don't get a chainsaw, but this game is not about moving alot, it's not Serious sam, where you ahve billions of bullets and run around.

It's survival horror.

It's supposed to take slightly on realism and mood, and realistically, a cop doesn't typically run and fire at the same time. He takes a stance. Just like in, say, the Rainbow six games > your best shots are when you're not moving at all, most accurate. Think of RE4 like that.

Then, throw in a very well-developed game that's been in production for many years and has some of hte best graphics you've seen in a long time...and on GC of all systems.

Then throw in the fact that it's great action/horror, and the fact that the game doesn't get old, throwing new twists and such, and the fact that it's continuous for this for 20 hours...

Amazing game.

How could you not get passed the "horrible" controls in RE4 if you haven't even played it?

Before judging a game please at least read up on it and any potential changes from previous titles in the series.

i was stuck at the egyptian-ish place where ashley needs to turn the cranks up above and i cant be with her, so i peg off guys walking towards her on the ledge with the rifle(if im lucky) while at the same time fending off zombies chasing me on my level of the temple. first time i got really frustrated

and holy crap, why cant there be more water levels. the lake monster thing made the most awesome looking water effects when it moved in and out of the water. it looked way too real to be on any console, even on a PC game.

I did do a little research on it not too long before it came out, and my friend owns it. He said the controls are mostly the same as the others. If I can't feel comfortable when controlling my character, I have a very hard time getting behind it.

I lost faith in the franchise when the controls weren't fixed with the first remake. I didn't see a point in even renting the other remakes. I would read reviews to see if the controls had changed, but they never were.

Despite my apparent attitude in this thread, I do want to play the game. There's been so much hype over the new controls, that I am practically obligated to at least give it a chance. I've been trying to rent it, but it's always out. Maybe I can borrow it from my friend.

Your friend is poorly informed. The game is entirely different from previous games. It has a more Splinter Cell feel to it, with shooting over the shoulder and walking over the shoulder. The point of view dramatically changes the game, and the controls are pretty different too, and feel solid given the viewpoint change.

^What he said.

I'm wondering how your friend can say the controls are the same, especially when he OWNS the game. The biggest diffference in this one is the point of view. Like Brad said, there's a dynamic POV now, instead of a bunch of pre-rendered backgrounds which you're stuck watching. Changes the game's controls and how they work tremendously.

It does take a bit of getting used to (did for me. I'd say through the village it was a bit ungainly) but after that, you're fine.

I agree completely. Krauser is the perfect character since he never runs out of ammo, never has to reload, and has the 1 hit kill thingy for the tougher dudes.

I still can't get passed Leon's. :P There jsut isn't enough ammo, and his weapons are too weak.
