Well now that painkiller is finally below $20, I decided to buy both Painkiller and the Expansion for 40 sumin. I have to say the story is kinda bleh, not much there, and the gameplay is fairly repetitive.. but man, nothing wrong with mindless blasting of zombies/monsters/demons. I like it!

Is it better than Serious Sam? Because i just went through the Serious Sam demo again and its soo sweet, i liked it better than pain killer demo but i still don't know which full game is better.

I picked up Painkiller for $20 and I must be getting old. All the FPS games I play these days just leave me feeling kind of nauseous and irritable. Medal of Honor was the same way. Incredible graphics though (I thought anyway).

Yep. The only FPS I have gotten into in the passed 3-4 years was Call of Duty.

The Painkiller demos were enough to tell me enough about the game.

I like it 10 x better then Serious Sam. Obviously it's repetitive and has almost no story, that's the point of it. :p Pointless slaughter and killing of awesome looking demons is sexy as hell levels! It has to be one of my favorite games of all times. Even though you can easily beat the game in under 4 hours, it's worth every penny. The replay value..Oh the value! Killing for hours and hours at a time. The Hell level is also awesome, even though Lucifer is a pushover.

The expansion on the other hand I don't like. The levels are pretty nice, but they are too simple and the enemies take too many shots to kill. The other thing is, the expansion runs like garbage on almost any computer. I have a Radeon 9600XT, 1GB Ram, and a AMD 3000+. Painkiller ran around 80FPS, the expansion...20FPS. Painkiller was fun because it was hundreds of enemies coming at you at once and with one or two shots they would explode! In the expansion it's less enemies, but it takes a lot more damage to kill them. That isn't fun, it's annoying! Also they removed the awesome rock soundtrack and gave it this like....real soundtrack. It just doesn't fit in at all. The last thing is, the cutscenes look EVEN WORSE then in Painkiller (hard to believe I know)
Think while it's still legal.

If it's anything like Serious Sam I'm hella interested. SS is what I would consider a "true" FPS, unlike UT, CoD, HL2, etc. I never really got into Painkiller because my comp couldn't handle it when it came out.

I still have yet to beat that damn monastery level in painkiller. I just can't find all the enemies, and i've gone over the map with a fine-tooth comb.

Heh, I'm working on that one too. Seeing as how I finally found all the enemies in the military base level.

I have the demo and I hate it. It's one good quality are it's weapons, which are kinda cool. Everything else was just bleh. When I first started up the game, I thought it was cool. 10 Zombie things later, I was very, very bored. I want more of a point to my games than that.

Not my type of mindless slaughter.

Postal on the other hand.... THAT is FUN mindless slaughter, and that WAS it's point. Kill things without thinking in any way I choose. Whereas Painkiller's point seems to be kill everything to advance. I hate that.

Demo dosen't really give that much credit to the game. The physics are amazing, meaning lots of replay value. Espescially opera house. <3 chandalier.

Serious Sam is about 100x better than Painkiller, but it's an awesome game in and of itself, so Painkiller holds its own quite well (imo). I love the stake gun...man...

Not to mention, it's the OG of Havok 2 engine games. Seriously, after playing that, then playing HL2, I'm like "Ripped off?"

One tip on going faster than normal--jump.

HOo boy. If you jump right you can zoom right past things. Of course, if you had an infinate ammo cheat on (>_>) then you rush by and use the secret attack with the needlethingie/zappyness. Decimate huge groups of baddies at a time.

I must be the only one who saw the physics and went, "Ok, that's cool" and left it at that. I never saw much of anything to drool over... Staking people walls is fun and all, but it gets boring sooooo fast...

IMO steaking gets old yeah. But why do we have the painkiller? Fun juggling of spinny blades for everyone!

I wish there was a painkiller mod that would boost the impact power of the stakegun to insane levels. Basically, when I stake an enemy, I want him to fly backwards until he hits something. That's perfectly feasable with the havok engine.
2005-02-21, 7:14 PM #19
See, that's what I was imagining BEFORE I got the game. THAT wouldn't get old so fast. Instead, I got that gun, used it, and immedately felt like it was overrated.

You have to love it for what it is, and KNOW that it's going to get boring eventually like everything else. You can fire at amazing angles if you're lucky. This thing ARCS. I was fireing upwards randomly, looked down and it rained stakes. Impaled a zombie by the head, through the body and into the ground. That was neat.

Just know that it isn't the only weapon. The shotgun makes use of these physics you know ;) Blasting zombies off of a bridge = fun. Also I think there is a caslte level with working seige equipment that you can operate to fling you around etc.

WTF? How can you say PK's physics are better then HL2s? I've sat for 20mins in PK and watched wood planks roll around the floor, after I shot them 20 minutes before.

I tried the demo. Worth the download, but not worth the $20 to buy the whole game. I just find levels where you can't progress until you kill X number of guys really...

...really...

...annoying.

Painkiller was fun. Pretty much like a new Blood, but not, but it still rocked and much.

I think UT and COD are some of the best FPS games around, Painkiller reminds me of UT but instead of shooting other people with a large arsenal, you only have a choice of 5 weapons, and youre killing demons and zombies and stuff...

Overall, good levels, okay guns, fantastic game engine with much potential. Story bleh, gameplay gets old but not too bad.

10 weapons, actually. The secondary fire has almost nothing to do with primary. Only thing close are the 'combos' which even then shouldn't make sense. The only exception would PROBABLY be the painkiller, but that's stretching it a bit.

Actually, the one that shocks (duno name) it's secondary in the combo works right along with the primary.

It's still a different attack. Do you know what it does? :P

The painkiller's combo is the same way. Totally different attack however.

Name em off? :P

And don't include weapons that would normally have that secondary fire (Assult rifle and it's nades)

The only thing I can think of is the shock rifle and link gun.
