It's updating now, 14 minutes to go. Anybody else have it, and how would you say it is, good, bad, meh?

I'm thinking about buying it soon, now that the Lightspeed expansion is on its way. Don't know how it'd go on dial-up, though. =/

It's a supreme waste of time, along with most other MMO's. It's like paying some big game company to suck away your life.

It was a fun game for me for a while, though alot of that may be because it was just fun to get on and play with other Massassians... but it sortof gets boring rather fast. Once you get in the groove of things, there's not really much else to do. Like I said, though, it's kindof fun to play with friends, but once everybody I knew started quitting, it got kindof boring (I don't really have much desire to make "friends" with most of the SWG community [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]). Maybe the space expansion will add alot to the game... But even if it does, I personally think it's a rip off that you have to buy it seperately.

I hope you have fun with it, and alot of people do, but personally I got kindof bored with it... though it did last me a good 3 or 4 months. Maybe more, I don't remember.

And I don't know when the last time gothicX played, but there's really not many bugs left to worry about...

The fact that you can have your blaster actually clip into an animal you are shooting and not be able to hit it because your "experience" isnt high enough is a bug within itself. That's so not star wars at all. They should have had that depend on two variables, your experience and your distance from the target. Or... *le gaspe* let you actually aim guns.

Erm. When was this introduced?

And: Cosmic: I played for a while. It was kinda fun. But it's been going downhill, really. (As of when I quit) Vehicles had just come out, and almost every major city, save Anchorhead and Bestine, were deserted, or too big for anyone to find each other. They added lots of cool stuff, like gambling machines, but the one person ones didn't pay well, and no one went into the Hotels (where they were) and no one played them.

Anyway. There was that, the bugs that still existed when I left, the people not helping or being friendly or acting in a Star Warsish way at all, as well as my constant framerate problem..

You might like it. You might not. Post, and tell us. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I think the point is that it's supposed to be an experienced based game. If you want to run around and aim and stuff, play JO.

It's always been like that. It was in the beta and it was the same a week ago, from what a friend has told me. (he started a new character, and i asked him to test it out)

Which further concludes my theory that star wars doesnt fit in with the MMO theme. Fantasy games do, but just... not SW.

It works fine on dialup. Very 56k friendly.

That said it was easily the most tedious and lifeless MMORPG I've ever played. The SWG forum here died for a reason, people quit in waves and waves of disappointment.

From what I've told it's still not at where it should be.

Well, tenchically fantasy is stuff like wizards and dragons and such. Star wars is sci-fi because it has futuristic weapons, space flight etc.

I still have it. I'm thinking of doing another 2 months and seeing if it repeaks my interest at all. I can honestly say I had more fun RPing a slow leveling character than I did playing a normal character (minimal role playing, mostly leveling/quests). I only had her for a few weeks before my subscription ran out, though. Getting involved in the whole community was fun, though. There's alot of good people in that game, if you can work through alot of the bad ones.

It can be construed as more fantasy. Sci-fi usually has something to do with the human race advancing to a point that is scientifically fictional. The Star Wars galaxy does not interesect with our galaxy, and does not have to do with us.

starwars could eaily fit into an MMO situation... if the game is made properly... there is a heavy use of blasters, let people aim them, if you must add experience to this then make it to where higher experience with a weapon means maybe an increased firing rate or maybe a little more accuracy with a not so accurate weapon ...

it's always the people who play games that seem to actually be able to come up with these type sof ideas long before a game developer does

First of all, it's not an FPS, so 'Aiming' doesn't fit in there, although tehre are abilities, like /aim, which increase your accuracy for a round. Secondly, it is Based on distance, each gun has an ideal distance for it (what distance that is around depends on the type of gun, i.e. normaly between 50 and 60 for rifles), and modifies how fast you lose accuracy on either side of that ideal distance.

It's ****.

Galaxies one saving grace: It's got Star Wars stuff in it. Seriously, take out the Star Wars aspect and you'd be left with one hell of a boring, tedious, and frustrating game.

It doesnt matter what kinda gun you're using, if you have the barrel inside the animal, it should be shot.

when it comes to accuracy they should have made it so if you have lower experiance your reticle(sp?) is bigger and your shots can go anywhere in that reticle. Kind of like the Call of Duty and Ghost Recon reticle when you were running or firing auto.

It's been said, but it's an RPG, not a FPS! You ever played Dungeons and Dragons, with that whole dice rolling thing for whether your attacks are successful or not? Well, that's what modern role-playing computer games are based on, dice are still being rolled behind the scene, they're just given a pretty front-end.

I kinda liked much of SWG's combat system by itself.....it was the fact players were gimped vs creatures and there was NO reward besides experience that got me down.

There was just no point to try to kill the hard creatures. You get just as much XP, just as fast without risking your life by simply mowing down lower level creatures. I came to the realisation I was on a treadmill that never even went anywhere.

At least games like Asheron's Call have a light at the end of the treadmill tunnel that drive you on and plenty of reward along the way.

I think a way to improve upon the Star Warsy-ness would be to condense all the servers into one so that there would be TONS of people everywhere except out in the random places, make it where not everyone could have houses, but you'd have to share houses and generators unless you had massive resources, and you could rent out houses in the developer cities so there's more of a point to go to them.

Grrr... there's so much about this game that if they had implemented it better it would've been awesome.

They separated it to reduce the load on the servers too, remember.

I'd feel so sorry for that server if all those people were playing on it at once...

I've never bothered to even get SWG, and I most likely never will... After examining/playing a little UO, I found that I entirely didn't like the direction the MMORPG genre was headed... The developers round off too many corners, and throw in generic elements that really shouldn't be there. I wish the developers would try to make a bold MMORPG, that was a great deal away from what's availible today, and would encourage a more colorful and creative environment, allowing characters to do whatever they wanted, just with sharp rules (as opposed to a too-rounded set of rules that's taken by all other MMORPGS). I'd like a game that's fun 100% of the time, without any tedious stages of playing, and the characters can eventually take any position they wanted, even replacing important NPCs, and becoming, say, a major ruler or the head of a faction that actually had some degree of power over the rest of the server. In other words, I'd like to see a verision of the Elder Scrolls Series as an MMORPG, without losing any of major aspects.

And you want it to have the best graphics on the market, run on a 400 MHz PII and be free to play. Yeah, we know what a perfect game would be, but the fact is, developers just cant do that. You are asking too much, and they just cant do it.
