So I got KotOR 2...
2005-02-22, 1:51 PM #1
And when I finish the traditional Star Wars scroll screen at the very beginning, my game freezes on a black screen. Wonderful. Anyone else having this problem? And there are no patches yet...

To make this legit, who else here has it and how is it?

i've got the game, i've got the exact same problem.

the only solution is to disable videos or to press esc manically at the start of the videos, so either way you cant watch them without the crash, sucks, but the game works still.

fun game though, even though i cant watch the pre rendered scenes.

I just got the game 2 days ago.. Havent had any problems with it so far. But I can say this...The game is ****ing amazing. Absolutely, ****ing, amazing.

How do I turn off vidoes completely?

I think the game is great, but my only problem is that swoop racing is borked.

Yeah, and the Pazaak den and Pazaak tournaments are non-existant despite what some characters tell me. The swoop racing is certainly a lot better, some of the tracks are really quite cool. I'd have liked a more EP1: Pod Racer type of minigame, THAT would be one HELL of a minigame. But not a big deal.

The game has been consuming me since I got it on Friday.

No problem with the video. You're not really missing much though.

its in one of the options menus, if not, try the configuration menu in the launcher before the actual game commences.

What level SHOULD I be at when I have just left the Atris chick?
2005-02-22, 3:51 PM #11
You should be a level 49 Black Mage with the summon 'Shiva'
Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

Keep playing Pazaak against each player in there until you get a message that you've beaten them the max number of times. Just beating them once does nothing.

There is only one player...

Moo.

I've played it for a little while (i'm still on that mining station at the very beginning) and I'm impressed so far. after JO/JA the new controls took some getting used to, but once I got the hang of it it was fun.

I'm waiting for when I can really sit down and get into it, w/o any interruptions.

Wow, it is really fun so far, I havn't stopped playing almost since I started this thread. One question, where do I see how many components I have? They arent under the "All" section of my inventory and I would like to build...

KoTOR 2 got boring, it's been sitting untouched on my desktop because of that.
2005-02-22, 9:39 PM #18
It suffers the same slow start as the first one. It's all good once you get light saber, though.

When you go to a workbench to build stuff, you can see it in the bottom right corner of the screen. It tells you how much components are required for said item and how many you currently have.

Hm, the game has only crashed for me about 3 times... strange bugs, but nothing too fatal yet.

Anyhow, I like the game, though I'd rather call it KotOR 1.5, because when compared to KotOR technically, it's like comparing MotS to JK... or something. Anyhow, nice game.

I just got mylightsaber not too long ago. I made it on the Ebon Hawk. I've just now finished the first planet of my choice, which was the BOunty Hunters one on Nar Shadaa. How far am i into the game? (it doesnt say like it does on KOTOR 1 XBox - 10%, 20%, etc)

I'm replaying as dark, I just did Peragus -> Telos -> Korriban and I have my lightsaber already.

I got my lightsaber on Dxun, and the second on Onderon... thats the way to go in my opinion.

Yeah, I beat that game the other day. It is a fabulous game, but it was a trial to get through it because it is so darned buggy.

I am going to try to replay it dark when a patch comes out (which should be soon, according to the Obsidian web site).
2005-02-23, 8:36 AM #25
I've been trying to play but there are a lot of bugs.. I was hoping a patch would come out soon to fix most of them.

There allready is a small patch out. But AFAIK it doesn't do much.

I love the game. A bit buggy, yes, but all in all not bad at all. I am nearing the end as a lightsider and just got thrown for a loop with one of my "companions" I think this game is a bit more philosophical than the first one.

Bought it the day it came out and played through it in four days.

I have now done most of the original 4 planets, nothing further than that, and I've started to realize a few things

The new planets they put in are really, really well done, Nar Shadaa, Dxun/Onderon and Telos were all amazing. The planets from the original games, Dantooine and Korriban were very weak. I got korriban done in about 2 hours, while Dxun/Onderon took me 8 hours or so when all was complete.

Uh, weird. I just was sparring with the Handmaiden on the ship like usual, and when it almost ended, I killed her? I went off of the Ebon Hawk to choose my party afterwards to see if she would be there and instead of her portrait it was empty and her name was, Broken, so very very broken. ???

Black Mages don't summon, Summoners do. ;)

sorry to revive a moderately dead thread but i've got a problem and i was wondering if any massassians could give me a hand....

on Dantooine i get crippling framerates (about 10 frames per minute max).

its ruined the game for me, i cant progress anywhere on this world, patch didnt work.

win2k pro, 512mb ram, 1.4ghz athlon XP (should be 1.6 but its slow, before you ask about the FSB, that isnt the problem).
ooh, 9600 pro too.

any ideas?

No, only having 512 mb of RAM is. Is the RAM SD or DDR?

I get terrible lag throughout most of the game, not just on Dantooine. Whats making me mad is my computer is a monster:

3.4 Ghz
1 GIG of DDR ram
Radeon x800 video card

...So?? Even on lowest texture settings and no shadows I get horrible lag. I know the video card isn't great, but if I can run Doom 3 and Half Life 2 at extreme settings with no lag at any spot then wtf..Kotor isnt even that graphically demanding.

I'm impressed you could run Doom 3 with the x800. I've heard nothing but bad news on compatibility with that card.

i'll send you a PM as soon as i get back to Dantooine (i continued with Onderon or whatever that planet is called when Dantooine was unplayable, currently unable to access the Ebon Hawk ).

Other than that, i'd point your friend towards the link posted (Cheers Heeb!), thats the first thing i'm gonna try.
