Well... I moved on Sunday. Let me give you a little backstory first.
Bought a house (mentioned in another thread). Needed new carpet and new appliances. All set to deliver and install last Friday.
Carpet place sent out *one* installer. I spent some of the day helping him carry the carpet up the stairs. He didn't finish in time so he said he'd be back on Saturday (which was fine because we were planning to move Sunday). I gave him my garage door opener so he could get into the house w/out keys. He said he was going to come back early the next morning and have it hammered out by noon.
Bought a refrigerator from Best Buy, the delivery guys dented it on the way up, but it looked like a beast and I didn't care that much. They hooked it up, told me to run a gallon of water through the water dispenser before drinking it. Then they left. So I grabbed a cup and started getting water, and low and behold my entire kitchen flooded. Defective refrigerator, so they told me they'd get a new one out to me on Tuesday.
Saturday we had a garage sale at the old place and sold 99% of the stuff we had out there (I was very surprised - it's the middle of winter). In the afternoon (around 1:30PM) I went out to my new house to meet my dad because he was going to help me install my new dishwasher (the old one leaked all over the floor and I don't trust it even after they "fixed" it). Got there, the carpet guy was still there (was supposed to be gone by noon). He left shortly after because he ran out of carpet (or so he said) - AND he forgot to give back my garage door opener (and I still don't have it).
The dishwasher air gap was busted and hooked up wrong, so we couldn't complete the installation of the dishwasher. I finished it up on Monday when I got the new parts.
Monday, the carpet guy was supposed to call back, I didn't hear from him so I called the store, and apparently the guy is fired. They are trying to get my garage door opener back, if not I guess I'll have to replace it (so he can't get into my garage with it)
Told him about the unfinished work (stairs weren't finished, one closet wasn't finished, they used silver metal joints instead of gold ones, and some of the seams are showing too much). They promise to send someone out today (actually the new guys are still here - more on that later).
I called Best Buy Monday to find out when they were going to deliver the new refridgerator, and they told me they had no record of a new one being needed or sent out, and that I'd have to come into the store to do an exchange! I was getting angry at this point... So I talked to them very nicely until they promised a new one would come out, but they couldn't get it out till Thursday, so I'm still waiting for that.
So, back to Saturday - we went to Budget Truck rental to get a moving truck, and we rented a 24 foot moving truck that looked huge. I didn't think we'd fill it up, but we did (and then some, moved the washer and dryer in my sisters truck and the TV in my Jeep). Sunday some of my friends and family came over and we loaded the truck.
Drove it out of the driveway and the moving truck started leaking transmission fluid all over the road. Tons of it. Called Budget, no answer (they are not open on Sunday for some reason). My brother's girlfriend found the truck registration behind the seat and called the registered owner (Budget Truck rentals in Port Angeles, WA). They said they would send out a new truck, but that it would be a 17 foot truck and that we could move our stuff from our 24 foot truck (which was full) into the 17 foot truck (what?). It would take them 3 hours to get here since Port Angeles was far away. I told them that wasn't helping and that they needed to get this thing towed to my new house so I could unload it and then they could tow it somewhere else. She told me no way. My brother told her that we were going to get someone to fix it and that we would send them the bill. The girl was all pissed and she said, "GO AHEAD" and then hung up.
My sister's boyfriend Matt is a good mechanic so he actually found out what was wrong and fixed it on the side of the road. Took him about an hour and a half I'd guess. So then we drove it to the new house and unloaded everything. Budget said they'd pay $200 for the repair, I just have to get them a reciept. (Found this out Monday.)
So here it is Wednesday, and two new carpet installers are here. They are fixing all the blunders of the last guy and they ripped the carpet off the stairs because the original guy didn't put new carpet padding like he was supposed to.
So here I am trying to figure out how to handle this with the carpet store. The original guy screwed a bunch of stuff up but we moved in already so it's going to be very difficult to get them to do it over. So I feel a bit of compensation is in order but it's hard to know how much. I'm thinking the entire installation fee at the very least. Hopefully these guys will be able to fix the bad seams because that is the most noticeable error. If not they'll have to redo it all
I'm going to go down there later today or tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind.
Anyway, that's how my move has gone so far. Luckily I had friends and family around to help me out because otherwise I would have been seriously screwed.
The new house is pretty good although my other sister's boyfriend, who happens to build houses for a living, noticed some things that are not up to code in how they attached the carport and the front porch. I'm going to get him to come out here and help me fix the stuff (or replace it if need be). Going to be a long year with a lot of home improvements
