Cool and all, but isn't that wasting a lot of fresh water?

Nice. Looks fun to climb.

Although, I didn't like the idea of coloring the ice. Looks ugly.

That is quite impressive. If I were an ice climber, which I wish I was, I would love to climb that.

And I read through all the ice wall pages. The guy is quite a good writer.

Quote:
The Nigerian Assistant Minister of Information, who is apparently the wife of a recently assassinated Army Colonel who says he must remain anonymous, emailed me to say the crossbow bolt came down in the Assistant Ministry courtyard, which is enclosed by coils of razor wire to keep people off the grass. At first the staff thought it was just the usual afternoon rebel attack, but then noticed the quizzical red colored rod laying among old shrapnel. They sent it to be analyzed by the Nigerian Ministry of Analysts. One of the analysts had previously been assigned to monitor the AlaskanAlpineClub website, and certain other ter, ah, interesting sites linked thereon, for obvious reasons. He recognized the thing before they got it entirely out of the special lead plated radiation hazard container. The budget for that monitoring program finally produced a result. The Minister Assistant offered to return the bolt, along with 25 million US dollars in cash, in unmarked duffel bags, previously expropriated by the aforementioned colonel who was the liaison for US oil contract accounts, which she said she would split with us if I would deposit the money in my bank account and first send her the account number. I could use the money, but I don't think she really has the crossbow bolt.

HAHAHAHAHA. :D

(If you don't understand what's going on, go back and read about the crossbow bolt idea he got earlier.)

[Edit]I've read some of what he's written on some of his other sites (http://www.parkservicecorruption.com/ etc.), and he seems to be quite vehemently opposed to government control. While he does have several good points in his writings, some of it reminds me of the author of the timecube website (http://www.timecube.com). A little bit extremist, but with good stories. I'll read the actual stories (http://www.alaskastories.com) later and share what I think if anybody cares.

Yes, because unfortunately ice doesn't exhibity that exotic ability to "melt".

The only real way to "waste" water is to ruin it permanently somehow (radioactive waste?). Water doesn't just disappear forever when it goes down the drain, it gets put back into your local water system either through your drainfield or your local wastewater treatment plant.

The concept of wasting water is only around because much of the country doesn't have enough water to sustain the people there so they have to pipe it in, and thus the price is high.

At my new house, I have my own well. I pay about 8 bucks every 3 months for the power it takes to run the pump ;)

What is the situation of radon around where your new home is located? Your own well has the potential to enhance the exposure if there is any risk of it.

Aye, might want to check for that kind of thing. Also because well water tends to taste like...bad, you may want to get a couple Britta or similar pitchers. I know I would.

Geesh where do you live? The water here is great, half the time you get an artesian well anyway and you don't even need a pump. The water tastes much better than city water (and I mean MUCH better). The water was just tested by the state health department about a week before I moved in, and the results say it's great.

I totally agree, you can't really even compare well water and some typical city water. Maybe Emon has drunk from polluted wells to get such a bad opinion. I know that when I leave the city to go to our family's summer cottage, I love to drink the pure well water just because it tastes so fantastic compared to the tap water I have here at home.
