Fear and Loathing in Las Netflix

Rant Warning!

Okay, so I am a huge Terry Gilliam fan. I've seen just about all of the films that he has directed...ALMOST all. I never saw Fear and Loating in Las Vegas. So a month or so ago I added it to my netflix list. So I've been waiting a while to get this movie in, because there were quite a few of my parents selections etc. above it, so I wait. I just read a few days ago that the author of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas commited suicide, I didn't think much of it, I just kind of thought 'wow that's weird! that movies coming in on netflix soon!'. Huzzah! It's coming in today! I run to my mailbox, I see the netflix envelope, I open it and...and....WHAT?! It's not Fear and Loathing! It's some other movie...Hmm, I log onto Netflix to find "Very Very Long Wait". AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH! I HATE PEOPLE!!! I rented this film long before this person died, but when he did die everyone went "OMG A DEAD MAN! I NEED TO SEE THE MOVIE ADAPTAION OF HIS BOOK!! I DIDN'T WANT TO SEE IT BEFORE, BUT NOW HE'S DEAD SO I NEED TO SEE IT!". They all bumped it up to #1 RIGHT BEFORE I GOT TO SEE IT! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! Now I need to wait even LONGER to see this movie.
Think while it's still legal.

You're really missing out. That's one of my favorite movies. It truly is a trip.

What I don't understand is why so many drug users love this movie. I consider it the biggest deterrent to using drugs I've ever seen.

I think a situation like yours justifies a single trip to Hollywood video or your local video rental store. Sure, it may cost a bit more, but it's worth it.

Deterrent? he has a blast.

I can understand what he is going through in quite a few of the scenes in the movie.

Not that i'd ever do anything involving illigal substances ;) .

Read the book if you can't get ahold of the (very good) movie. Read The Rum Diary while you're at it.

You gotta watch Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in homage to Hunter S. Thompson who died a couple days ago (well.. killed himself)

I love that movie. I did a Fear and Loathing room at one of our parties last semester. Decorated my room all crazy and dressed up. It wa great.

As to the wait for the movie, if you rent a ton of movies, they give preference to people who don't rent as many movies since you would be using more Netflix resources, so to speak. Don't worry though. The movie is worth the wait.

His books are awesome. The movie was pretty good, but I wouldn't put it so high on a pedastool like so many people do...but that's again comparing to the book.

While it does show the different sides of most trips, that they're not all the time to lovely image people like John Lennon put it out to be like in Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds. It more truthfully shows the experience, on the contrary to that popular image it's put out to be, both the negative and positive aspects of it. It shows a great philosophy on the actual trip, especially if a bad trip is involved.

It shows to just accept what's going on, don't try to intellectualize it or fight against it, just be a maniac, best put in the line "You can never turn your back on a drug, but you can turn your back on a person, especially when it's a razor sharp knife waving in front of your eye"(Basically the quote)

Also it shows one of the main concerns (well, in most of my bad trips) that there's always going to be a morning after, you'll eventually become sane again, you aren't going to be crazy forever.

Besides that, just look at thebasic story line itself, and what's involved, a large portion of the movie is drugs! A part of our lives, our interests. Put it this way, wouldn't a person who is a Pop Art fan want to see a movie about Andy Warhol? Opposed to a Jackie Chan movie?

But who are we kidding? It's not about drugs, it's about the American Dream!

So you can turn your back on a knife? yeah you butchered the quote.

heres the real quote:

"You can turn your back on a person, but, never turn your back on a drug. Especially when it's waving a razor-sharp hunting knife in your eye. "

Ya fear and loathing is hardly a deterrant. Actually makes me want to do it more.

Requiem for a Dream..now thats a deterrant.

And Trainspotting.

Between RfaD and Trainspotting...I'm never, ever, ever going to even think about looking at and/or touching heroin.

EVER.
