Doom 3 expansion coming early
2005-02-26, 5:13 PM #1
This is so awesome. The expansion is supposed to get rid of the closet monsters, include more open spaces, have many unique twists, and a better story. It's really cool how the action is right from the get go and the game length is supposed to be about half that of the original. 10 hours for an expansion is darn good IMO especially when it adds 3 way CTF to the game. I can't wait for this one.

My friend who is really good on computers told me that Doom 3 was not good. He said it made him claustrophobic or something, but I don't really know how that is... unless it was virtual reality?

Anyway, I am interested in this game, it sounds cool!
2005-02-26, 5:17 PM #3
Wait, the expansion has lots of action, a "gravity gun", open spaces, unique twists, lots of fun and a great story? Are you sure you are talking about Doom 3? Sounds like another game to me!

It started around Chapter 1 and it ended around Chapter 14...Wait, Half-Life 2? Who mentioned that?! I sure as hell didn't! :o

Not gonna bother with this one. Doom 3 was fun at first. Then it got boring and repetitive. So boring and repetitive that it's joined those very few games that I've never finished. I got to the comm station, sent the message, and after that, I just quit. A few days later I uninstalled the game.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Gabe Newell should put down the Krispy Kremes and sue Carmack for stealing the gravity gun for his POS expansion!

Did you know that the makers of Doom 3 aren't the people making the expansion. Of course not, you wouldn't have any facts. :D

that doesnt change the fact that whoever is making it is ripping off HL2.
2005-02-26, 6:13 PM #18
You do realize that the gravity gun isn't exactly all that original in the first place, right?

Flinging things around has been around since JK.

Just as much as HL2 and every other shooter ripped doom off for having you shoot other people.

uh, except that's a very, VERY general idea, and a gravity gun is a much MUCH more specific thing.

You seem to be forgetting that Carmack programmed the very first FPS, Wolfenstein 3D. Not that I'm trying to say Wolfenstein 3D had a gravity gun, but typically when someone comes out with a new idea, the other guys mimic it; it's expected, and even Valve does it.
2005-02-26, 7:02 PM #23
yeah im sure he could sue thousands of companies for making first person shooters. and im sure the first person who wrote a book could sue everyone who did it, or the first person who made a techno, hip-hop, or rock song because they were the first person to try that GENRE of media.

oh wait no they cant, and if they tried they should be killed for stupidity.

and im sure all you people were boo-ing every time microsoft put a copywrite something data-related. but now it's justified?

Yes, it's outrageous, and it was part of the point I was trying to make. (I knew the way I conveyed my point was a little odd, so my above post has been edited.) But it's around the same level of outrageous as is sueing someone for having an identical item in a different game. Games and books have been doing this sort of thing for years. Yes, it's a bit cheap to do, but when an audience of a particular genre likes a new idea, you're going to see it show up in more than one product.

I can do 4 flag CTF in Halo 2.

Chaotic, yet insanely fun.

Oh ya, I heard some guys at work talking about that. I played a level in Half Life, but I don't think it was Half Life 2. There were guys in suits yelling "Move out!" and I think it was online. Was at my friends house.

HOLY EFFING CRAP.

You guys have no idea what you're talking about. "LOL DOOM 3==RIPPING OFF HL2 WITH GRAVITY GUN LOL"

In the game, one of the first things they implemented was g_grabber...which is a command which basically lets you grab things that are in front of you and throw them around. Sound familiar? Because that's what they based their grabber around.

So please, stfu about it.

Yecti--I love you.

On that note...

The expansion should own. It'll be more actiona oriented, have a lot more characters, you'll be a part of a team...man, it has a lot of potential.

Time will tell though. And personally, I can't wait for multi-flag CTF. The last time I saw it implemented PERIOD was TFC, which is still one of my favorite mods. Soldiers > You.

I point out again, Halo 2.

Unless you're refering to PC, in which case you're probably correct.

I like the idea of a gravity gun in Doom3 expansion. There might be some interesting advancement with this concept (as long as they don't overdo it in future games.)
