World of Warcraft:

There's a new meaning to pathetic methinks.

I went to that satyr place to get the horns and get warsong oil. I found a 31 mage doing the same quests so I asked him to group. Together we were killing off these corrupted (More so than they already are) night elves, and along comes a 33 paladin. I'm still stealthed in cat, and he dosen't see me. He goes straight for the mage hoping for an easy gank (We were in the middle of fighting a mob). mage finishes off the mob and takes on the pally with half health. I sneak up behind and shred him, knocking off a good portion of his health. Finishing him off with a nice combination of frost nova and Tiger's Fury. Spiffy.

We continue our questing, when I see the paladin running down the hill again. This time he came straight for me. I rooted him and called the mage over. I spammed wrath and moonfire while the mage spamed arcane missiles. I didn't even have to shift to cat for this one.

Third time, he thought he was devious by respawning behind an overgrown tree root. I saw his corpse turn into a skellie and looked around. Saw his name poping up over a large wooden growth. Apparently he was healing. So I decided to stealth in cat and the mage blinked behind a tree. Mage looked around for a bit, then I appeared behind him and shred/claw his health down. Mage continued to pelt with arcane missiles and fireball.

Ok, so we're questing about and get a 25 druid to party with us. All is fine. Guess who shows up to dinner? The same 33 pally with 2 guild mates. A 24 hunter and a 22 priest. Let's look at the situation

25 Druid | 33 Paladin
31 mage | 24 hunter
27 druid | 22 Priest

Fun. The punks caught us off guard when fighting a few mobs. I warstomped the hunter and 2 mobs, mage finished mobs with arcane explosion. I turned to cat and sprinted out of the area, mage blinked away. Druid took a huge chunk out of the priest but fell. We were now outside the gates of the Satyr area. I healed the mage and rejuved myself. Hunter came out. I hibernated the pet, wrathed the hunter for a bit. For some reason the pally wasn't outside yet. The Priest apparently thought we couldn't see him with Fade. Huh. That was a pretty fast death for a priest I must say. Anyways, roots wore off the hunter, who put Aspect of the Cheetah on and started running, only to get whacked in the head by a fireball and decided to feign death (Had half health before getting hit, so I knew it was a feign.). The Pally FINALLY came out, and we took him out accordingly. Mage blinked behind a hill and I stealthed. Hunter got up and got raped.

I ressed the 25 druid and he told me why the pally wasn't in the fight for the most part. "He was dancing on my corpse and spitting at the ground for a good 2 minutes." We then went on our marry way questing.

The stupidity of the Alliance never ceases to amaze me.

I've only killed another player once in an MMORPG. I went into the PVP area in Nexus, where I'm usually killed immediately by one of the dozens of people hanging around the entrance, but I managed to get past there and explored the area for a while. I found a warrior walking around, and attacked him with a ranged spell. He started chasing me, since he had no ranged attacks, so I kept my distance and continued attacking him. For some reason, he didn't figure out that chasing me wasn't going to work, so I eventually killed him.
I'm just a little boy.

My little brother and I were playing Anarchy online, and someone attacked us in a PVP zone... This dude was way stronger than us.

But I spammed my magic attacky thingies, and my little brother beat it with a club... it started to cuss us out, and then died.

I was travelling in the contested area south of Loch Modan (Can't think of name, I'm a noob) with a guild mate.

Now at the time I was only a level 15 Mage. I shouldn't really have been there, but he wanted to show me something.

So out comes this ?? Tauren and his ?? Friends (3 more).

Now I get hosed because my buddy, a level 52 Pally is off fighting several mobs, not paying attention to me at all.

So, essentially I turn around and start hightailing it for the exit of the zone. Meanwhile, (we're on Teamspeak) he's asking me where I went, and why I'm running back. I quickly explained I had incurred the wrath of the Horde by standing still, and was running for my pitiful life.

I was trapped by these guys in a small area and so I just started spamming spells. They stood there for a few, resisting my spells. Then I was ganked.

Thats my story.

I was playing iRO, in the PvP town area.

I was just going to pick up some items (very nice potions in the PvP town), and some stupid knight comes out of nowhere and starts wailing on me.

Now, you must realize, I am a very high level Assassin, lvl 96 to be exact. My AGI is in the roof, and melee attacks on me are about the most pointless thing you can do.

He swings at me, misses.

I turn around, and say "What are you doing?"

He doesn't say anything, and continues to attack. I just sit down, while he continues to miss.

I ask again, "What... ARE you doing?"

He finally responds, "I am gonna own you hardcore! I'm just waitin for your stupid potion to wear off."

I inform him quietly of his situation: "I'm not using any pots. I was on the way into town to get those pots."

He says, "What? BS."

I tell him, "I'm level 96... you have maybe one in a 5000 chance of hitting me with that regular attack."

He replies, "Fine, then I'll bash your ***** ***"

Me: "Ummm... you do that."

He uses bash on me, which does have a very good chance to hit. He does land a blow, and it does hurt a bit. So I decide to end this before I have to actually start worrying.

I stand up, and he says, "Don't bother hitting me, my defense ownz you. Your attacks won't do crap."

I say "Have you been living in a hole? Assassins are critical attack masters... critical attacks bypass defense..."

He replies, "Haha like your crits will do anything with my massive HP."

I don't even bother to respond. I attack, my crits do average damage, but I attack VERY rapidly. His HP drops like a rock, then he dies.

He says, "Omfg, you so hack."

I say, "A. You don't know anything about iRO. B. I'm level 96, what do you expect. C. A novice wouldn't need a hack to beat you."

I left him on the ground there, and went off for my potions. Quite hilarious :D

Man, some stupid Undead Warlock (level 53 in a 20-30 area) has been ganking in Raven Hill on Sargeras for supposedly months. Everyone is insanely low compared to him, and has no chance. I got sick of it, and started a raid of lowbies to hunt him down. Sure enough, we found him after scouting the area for a few minutes. All of us rained down our noobish blows as he tried to get off a few spells before being overcome.

^ ^ We finally tracked him down and exacted noobish justice. A dance party and other celebrations ensued on his corpse.

We sat around there dancing and telling jokes for a while, hoping he'd try to rez. He didn't. We all ran into the bushes, leaving a level 26 gnome as bait... His favorite kind of delicious, helpless meat.

...Little did he know a frost trap was waiting on his corpse upon rez. We swooped in quickly, surprising him from behind the fence/trees/bushes.

I deals the killing blow! This time he knew not to come back. Hopefully this will mark the end of this dishonorable, pointless, griefing tub of **** :D But I really doubt it, I expect him back tommorrow night. And I will gladly assemble another noobraid to hunt him down.

In World of Warcraft, I killed a lvl 37 mage with my lvl 34 hunter 5 times... I like to summarize the battle in this equation

His damage >>> My Damage
His HP <<< My damage

Plus it's really hard to cast when someone is raining arrows on you, and a cat is biting your arse.

That was my most fun PvP experience.

There are many many more tales of me attempting to gank some of equal or 1-2 levels higher/lower (I consider this fair) only to have some level 60 horde pop out of nowhere, or like in Connection Problem's case, have some loser horde of ridiculously high level camping in newb areas. The guy was literally there for weeks... So sad. My favourite story of me being ganked is this level 31 Rogue who would hide somewhere, then stealth in while I was fighting mobs (I was level 35 at the time) then he would backstab, poison, etc... and as any WoWer knows, Hunter > Rogue... as long as he seems him first. Well the rogue ALMOST killed me, except at the last moment a level 45 druid hit me with an instant heal, and schooled the rogue. Shortly after I was fighting some more centaurs, when I noticed the rogue's corpse was now a skelly. "Oh snap" I thought, and was promptly hit from behind, again, when guess who happened to be passing by again? My friend the druid. :)

In FFXI, the only form of PVP is called ballista, its like a basketball game of death.

All the ballistas are capped, but anyone lower than the cap can join.

I run in, the san'dorians are getting closed to our rook (The basket), and they have the petra (ball). I see their BLM is casting Sleepga2 (AOE sleep attack), so I join in, and use barrage quickly, and kill the mage, and leave the battle....

So much fun.

I was dueling fishstickz in SWG once, I was a smuggler (lots of ranged attacks) and he was a Taris Kasi master (melee fighter).

We started off about 10-20 meters from each other, I immediately launched my Body Shot 1 and Body Shot 2, both of which cause him to 'bleed' (take damage over time), and the effects stack. He was charging at me, and I just backed up. Because everyone runs the same speed in SWG, he couldn't catch me, so I just kept attacking with my blaster, and he never laid a finger on me.

Joy!

hehe. I love these MMO stories. except I hate it when they're written by 'roleplayers'.

So, a question. I shall probably be starting WoW in a few days, as a mage, on a PvP server. Not because I'm hugely into PvP, just because there didn't seem to be any point on going PvE as PvP servers have all the same stuff as PvE.
So, what are the pros and cons of the mage talent builds?

My immediate thought is frost/arcane, as the 'slowing' effects seemed very useful generally, moreso than just huge damage. Also, is frost/fire or fire/frost not an option at all? Is arcane totally necessary?

He he, silly FFXI and EQ2 and it's crappy PvP

Arcane isn't exactly necessary. In fact, when I eventually make a mage I might go all frost.

I had my first PvP experience today. It took to hits to kill me. I didn't even know whom I was fighting. The only indication for pvp was a message that explained me pvp.

heh a week ago....i decided to go overt for the first time...in the middle of mos eisely, all was fun, i was taking out some rebel npcs, then i needed to get my action pool up, so i sat down...right in front of the starport-only to be buttraped by 4 rebel players as they exited the starport....

that was just wrong.

If anything I'd say frost is more necessary... You will be using your frost skills alot for crowd control in PVE, and it's absolutely key against melee classes in PVP.

Too bad. I'm going to tell the story in a roleplaying way. :p (btw, from what I've heard, Fire is best for when you are questing and leveling, Frost is best for PvP)

Anyway, when my Tauren Warrior (Cyran) was level 37, I managed to kill one level 39 Hunter and a 37 Hunter near simultaneously(their entrance into the battle was staggered) and then defeated another 39 Hunter right after that. Now, this is before I discovered the beauty that is Improved Shield Block and I was still dual wielding. Anyway, it was on an RP server(Normal server pvp rules), so I decided to type out a decription of the battle and post it in the server forum or the roleplay forum. I didn't do either though. FYI, the length of this story is almost 3 pages. And see if you can name the abilities I described. :)

Quote:
"This is by no means the most fun thing to do" mutters the Tauren. Cyran was an up-and-coming warrior and could almost learn how to ride a kodo. The thought of riding one of those great beasts was the only thing keeping him going. He looked out over the hills with scattered tigeress and panther carcasses and spotted a female Tauren and her pet who must also be hunting in this region and were slightly more experienced than he was. He gives her a gentle wave and then walks not two steps when he sees two more hunters, a male dwarf and a female night elf, run across the hills. They were evidently hunting here as well.

Cyran had no ill will for the Alliance, and he even helped them when he could, but he noticed something about the Night Elf. She had the Mark of War on her. She was advertising her hostility. Cyran’s ears twitched at the though of a skirmish, however, he didn't think he could take both hunters alone and he knew the dwarf would Mark himself as soon as his companion was attacked. He also noted that the night elf seemed more experienced than he was and the dwarf was probably on par with his own experience.

Wanting a battle, he decides to try and even the odds a little. He approaches the Tauren hunter he had greeted earlier and points out the Night Elf. "Feel like a little battle?" The female Tauren declines the offer however and continues on her way. Turning back to the Night Elf, he notices she in engaged in battle with a creature, yet the dwarf is no where in sight. "Excellent" he thinks. Now, Cyran loved battle and he was also a Tauren of fair honor in spontaneous skirmishes like these. So, Cyran runs a little ways to the side of the Night Elf so she can see him, waves to her, then Marks himself.

The Night Elf and her pet soundly defeat the random creature and the Night Elf starts running towards the corpse, to skin it no doubt. Wanting this opportunity to test his own skills, he waits for the hunter to make it to the corpse and inspect it for a second. Now, he had given the Night Elf notification that he was going to attack, but he wasn't necessarily going to let her idle around and get the first strike on him whenever she pleased.

With a burst of speed, Cyran runs at the Night Elf and slams into her, stunning her for a precious second. He takes this time to pull out both of his axes and begins swinging at the momentarily helpless hunter. Feeling the pet close in on him and strike at him at a weak point in his armor, he quickly shifts over to defensive battle tactics, but still choosing to ignore the Night Elf's pet crocolisk and instead roars at it, sending it running away.

By this time the Night Elf is now again fully aware of her surroundings and takes out her large weapons and begins fighting back. However, the Night Elf was making one fatal error: she was trying to stand toe to toe with a Warrior. No bobbing, no weaving, just standing there as if she were fencing. Taking advantage of this, Cyran pounds at her with both his weapons, sometimes missing completely in the chaos of the battle and sometimes striking weak points in the Night Elves’ armor. During this the pet gets enough courage to come back and fight him, but Cyran pays it no heed.

Then suddenly, the Night Elf dies. She collapses to the ground and remains motionless. Now, it was time to deal with her pet. Cyran turns to the pet and begins slicing at it, but then realizes something. When a hunter gets killed, their pet runs away. It was kind of like how in a large scale battle if the King or General was killed, then the soldiers would disintegrate and run away. But this pet was not running. He quickly looks over at the hunter and sees her chest almost imperceptible rise and fall. Greatly angered at himself for falling for this deception, he turns once more to the hunter and begins to hack viciously into her armor.

The Night Elf must have realized her rouse failed because she then jumped up and ran around Cyran and seemingly away. However, when she passed she took her sword and made a gash in Cyran's foot, which only angered Cyran more. Cyran gave chase with the pet at his rear when he felt a sudden sting in his back. He could feel venom seeping into his veins, and knew almost immediately that the Dwarf hunter was back.

But first thing first. He managed to limp his way to the Hunter and takes his axe and slash it across her calves as she drank a healing potion. Cyran presses on the attack, this time not fighting at a stand still but running around her as he attacked. Soon enough, he noticed she was horrible wounded, and with that he brought one axe up and sliced it across her neck, killing her instantly.

But he was not safe yet. During all this the dwarf had been shooting arrows into his armor and flesh. Cyran quickly turned and closed with the hunter and his raptor pet, laying into the dwarf. However, his health was getting perilously low, and Cyran took a quick moment to let a healing potion rush into his mouth. It wasn't the best healing potion he could use, but it would have to do. Finding several weak points in the dwarfs armor, he quickly dispatched the dwarf without as much trouble and executed him the same way he had done to the Night Elf, though it still wasn't easy. Had he allowed himself to be completely engulfed in the battle and had instantly counterattcked against every attack the dwarf made on him, it would have been far easier.

Now, all this commotion must have attracted the attention of the female Tauren hunter as during all this she was standing near by, chastising Cyran for engaging in a fight. Perhaps she had more loyalty to hunters than Tauren. After the fight the female Tauren challenges Cyran to a duel, but before it starts Cyran makes a point of quickly eating something to regain his strength. Now being at full strength again, he accepts the challenge and backs up a ways.

Cyran gets the first strike and makes a running slam into the Tauren hunter. After striking the hunter several times and getting struck in turn by her and her pet, the Tauren lifts her foot and crashes it down onto the ground, stunning Cyran. The hunter runs past Cyran and begins pelting him with arrows, but he comes out of it soon enough and attacks her once against, giving her a war stomp of her own. She snaps out of it and begins attacking again, but Cyran decides to stack the odds a little more in his favor. He turns around one of his axes so that the pick axe point is now what would be hitting her. He drives the point against her armor several times, tearing and shattering parts of it.

He quickly turns it around and begins hacking once more at her. The hunter runs past Cyran again, but entangles one of her legs with his and begins to make him stumble. As she is running away to get to a point where she can turn and shoot at him, Cyran realizes he won't be able to catch up with her. He lets out a loud shout and runs at her with the speed he had at the beginning of the battle and crashes into her again, stunning her. She fights back, but it is now futile. Within seconds Cyran finds an opportunity once again to execute his opponent and brings his axe blade across her throat, but leaves her just enough life to stumble, fall down, and admit defeat.

Shaking his head, Cyran returned to the nearby Orc base camp to recuperate from his wounds. He was suprised he had taken out three as or more experienced hunters sequentially, one of which actually started attacking him while attacking the other. However, he realized where he could work on his technique. During the entire battle, he had not once hit the opponents weapon out of their hands. This would have given him several seconds of great advantage. Alas, it was something to improve upon. There is always something to improve upon.
