My dad just showed this to me. It's a test of one's ability to concentrate on lots of motion.

Here

As you watch the video try and count the number of passes the people make during their little game.

Post how many passes you count. I'll post the correct number after a couple of replies.

Well apparently my java isn't working (help?), but this is so weird because I read about this today. I read the first post and thought "it's that thing with the gorilla". According to New Scientist, 40 per cent of viewers fail to spot it when they're counting, but if they're asked to watch the game normally, they all see it immediately.

Here are my obsevations after 4 tries:

Quote:
1st try 22 gorilla
2nd 28 gorilla
3rd 28/29 gorilla
4th 30 gorilla

It is interesting, to see how each time my number went up slightly. I also reckon it is somewhere in the late twenties since my average sightings seems to be there. I may have missed quite a few thiugh, and I may have added some. I don't think I did very well, but at leasr I saw the gorilla everytime! :p

It's 33. Watch it twice, once for the black team ball and once fo the white team ball. Add them together.

Actually, Maevie got it right. It has nothing to do with how many times the ball was passed; that's just to get you concentrating on something else so you won't see the guy in the gorilla suit walk right throught the middle of the scene. The effect is called "Inattentional Blindness" and this was a study done on it.

Like maevie said, if you get people concentrating on the balls many of them will miss the extremely obvious gorilla. Quite cool.

This site has a bunch of videos on different types of "Change blindess". Watch the videos and read the explanations. It will scare you.

(This one is particularly cool. All you need to know is that the construction worker has asked the woman for directions.)

That was hilarious. I'll admit that if I was watching it normally, I may not have noticed, but since I was looking for something odd, I saw it straightaway and just thought "how on earth could someone not notice that?!"

They say on the index that in the experiment they were asking college students and older people. When they approached student subjects with student looking people, the percentage of people that noticed was quite high, but when they approached older people with student-type people, the percentage of people that noticed was low.

Then they started to use construction workers instead of student-type people and the percentage of people that noticed fell almost to 0.

Think about that.
