Far Cry Troubles
2004-04-26, 3:34 PM #1
Just bought & installed Far Cry after spending nearly $300 to upgrade just so I can run some of the latest stuff. However, I am getting constant complete lock-ups at the opening logo videos, main menu, and loading screens, to the point where the game is unplayable. Having to restart the game 9 out of 10 times just to start it is a bit ridiculous, and I'm having trouble understanding what could possibly be causing the problem. I'm running and AMD Athlon XP 2100, ASUS Radeon 9600 XT, with 512MB RAM. That's pretty damn sufficient if you ask me. Any help is appreciated. Thanks ahead.

Update divx, update all your drivers.

Check to make sure hardware acceleration is at it's highest and that you have your comp set for a 128 meg video card (should be in your BIOS settings somewhere).

Done both of those, and the problem still persists. Looks like that upgrade was REALLY worth it...

I was having the same troubles. I'm sure you've already upgraded your drivers, but when I did that the game ran fine. If you're willing to try something, you should downgrade to 3.8 Catalyst drivers... those are guaranteed to work.

The Far Cry website said that Radeon cards do not run Far Cry well at all, and there is "currently nothing we can do". It seems like pure chance when a Radeon user can play Far Cry.
