GT4 is the worst game ever
2005-03-05, 9:35 PM #1
Seriously, I bought the game tonight, and after playing it on and off for the past 4 hours, I have acomplished almost nothing. All that I've done was purchase a ****ty car, loose a bunch of crappy races with said ****ty car, and take both my game controllers outside and smash them against the side of my house. I want my $54 back.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

It'll get a lot immersive and fun later.

How does it compare to GT3?

I'm sure it will. But I won't be playing it later. I'm just gonna give it to my friend Jennifer and say "Here. Play." I already have to buy 2 new controllers now. I have never played a game has bad as this. I would rather play Britney's Dance Beat or whatever the hell it is. Or that stupid American Idol my 10 year old niece likes.

I have no frigging idea. I didn't play any of them since GT1.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Well, since we're on this topic, anyone who's played both, how does GT3 compare to GT4? In GT3 I mostly played the Arcade Mode, is there a similar mode in GT4? Also, how do the graphics, gameplay, etc. compare?

You actually took your controllers outside and smashed them against the wall? That's funny as hell :)
Think while it's still legal.
2005-03-05, 9:53 PM #7
Well actually, I chunked them on the ground several times. I took them by the wire and swung them on the ground. Then against the side of the house. Then against a huge tree. Then on the ground some more. Then I threw part of them over the fence into the front lawn and came back in.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

...

Can I just ask why you did this with the Controllers, and not the game disk? Hell, I'm guilty of abusing my controllers every once in awhile too (what am I saying... Xbox controllers are almost built like tanks), but not THAT much. I just kinda toss mine at the wall and let them hit the floor.

you do realize that if you can't progress because you keep losing that maybe it isn't the game that sucks

Ok, explain to me why when I race my favorite car, the Pontiac GTO, I usually get first or second place? But when I race a POS Honda Civic or those minivan/suv/unsafe for American road foreign POS cars, I lose left and right? Oh wait, it's cause it's a crappy car.

Besides, I needed new controllers anyway. I'd been having problems with one of them, and the other is an old model that needs to be updated. This game just helped me make the purchase faster.

are the other cars you are racing equally crappy? then maybe YOU suck at driving a crappy car

Wow... if Thrawn ever invites me over for a xbox game or two, I'll be bringing a helmet, some pillows, and lots of duct tape. :D

2005-03-05, 10:06 PM #13
DrkJedi82, the problem is this. I drive a frigging Honda Civic. A Civic. That should explain like 99% of the problems right there. Now, if I could actually make some money, then I would get a better car. The problem is, whenever I race, as soon as I hit a straight away, EVERY car passes me. When we are going through twists and turns, I can go from 6th place to 1st place in like 30 seconds. I can control my car, I just have no frigging speed. The other problem is I can't get past some of these licenses missions because I have a crappy car. As a result, I can't take my crappy Civic to Japan and race in the Civic races to make several thousand dollars to make my car better. Or buy a better car.

SavageX, I won't touch X-Box unless paid. I can't figure out the controls. I don't get frustrated when I play that thing, because I just know X-Box has crappy controls.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Bottom line.

You're horrible at the game.
2005-03-05, 10:12 PM #15
Rob, ok, assume I am horrible at the game. Then explain why when I race in Arcade mode, I kick so much ***? Oh, wait, maybe it's because I drive a car that isn't worth me pissing on? I can control the car, just that my car has no speed. If I raced in a level that had no straight aways, and was one big twist and turn, I would get first place every frigging time. The second my car hits a straight away, it maxes out at like 105 and everything passes me.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.
2005-03-05, 10:14 PM #16
You're horrible at managing your own car.

I'm downright HORRIBLE at all things racing games and I haven't had any real problems.
2005-03-05, 10:19 PM #17
Well as soon as I make the $$ Im dumping the Civic and buying the GTO.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.
2005-03-05, 10:24 PM #18
So it's the Civic that sucks, not the game. Start over with a different car.

Already am. Apparently one of the controllers was capable of getting the crap beat out of it and still works. I'm still trashing it tomorrow.

I've never understand how people can destroy controllers due to a game making them frusrated.

Sometimes I wonder if you get married and get frustrated with your spouse if you will beat them too.
2005-03-05, 11:19 PM #21
You need to be entering the crappiest races with low HP limits. If the races allows for cars that have much more HP than your car does, you're ****ed from the start.

Demon_Nightmare, I get pissed at my dogs when they piss and crap in the kitchen, but I don't hit them. If I ever hit a woman, other than defense, I'd go play in traffic.

And I just bought the GTO.

Sometimes I get frustrated with my fellow Massassians and I beat them, does that count?
2005-03-05, 11:36 PM #25
Lol. This is hilarious.

Ok, I haven't played 4 yet, but I'm about to buy it. I'm an AVID fan of the Gran Turismo series.

THRAWN - In GT3, you start out with 16,000 dollars. That's JUST enough to get you either a Beetle, or a PT Cruiser. Yes, you heard right. A beetle or cruiser. Those are the HIGH-end models to pick from at start. Now, the first time playing through, I raced the same track about 30 times, JUST to get myself enough money to buy a Viper GTS. It took a bit, but I did it. Sometimes, I'd only get 2nd or 3rd place, but I managed to get better. Later, I fiddled with the MODs of the cars, and realized what I could add and change.

I proceeded to whoop butt, soon. I have beaten every part of GT3 except for the F1 mode, where I still have the game saved, mid-tourney. I haven't the nerves to do that, quite yet. :p :D

Just take your time, experiment. It's like when you first start driving, or editing. It takes time, and you KNOW that. I was equally as frustrated as you (without obliterating controllers, but managed to fault one out) by GT3, and told my friend the game was stupid, so I quit playing it, and refused to do so when he challenged me. Later, I bought it, pwn3d at it, and now he refuses to play when I challenge him.

AT LEAST play the game for it's engine. :)

Again, I realize now the source of all my problem was the Honda Civic. After restarting, I got the 97 RX-7 for $8,000 or so, then beat Sunny Mode and traded it in for the Toyota Supra Twin Turbo for $11,000. I then proceeded to continue beating Sunny Side Up and the Toyota's wheel track and got the $ to buy my GTO. Now I am happy. All I gotta do is get my friend to get the licenses.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

I havent played GT4, but based on GT3 experience:

- Do the licence tests. Not only will they improve your driving, but you'll get free cars which even if they're crap you can sell for cash.

- Are you driving an auto or a manual? If you suck at changing gears drive an auto, dont push it.

- Fiddle with the options and turn all the assist options on. They make the game much easier.

- Practice. The GT games are all about knowing the tracks and knowing the limits of your car. I'll say that again, learn the tracks! Dont just jump straight into the most complicated circuits you can find and presume you'll win. Knowing when to brake and turn in for every corner on a track is vital.

THRAWN - Ow. :(

I used to own a '97 Civic DX. Wasn't luxury, but it was manual transmission, and it had Stg. 2 turbo in it. It went from 0-60 in 5 seconds (I kid you not), maybe a wee bit less. I raced friends in Firebirds, Mustangs (non-cobra), and on one empty Christmas Eve night; an undercover cop car ('96 Crown Vic, whom the driver was an aquaintance, so I didn't go to jail. :p ), and would win. I don't think I had a 'crappy' car. I didn't have any add-ons to exterior, though. Wish I did. They look purty. But then again, that's the point. Some sports cars look crappy, but you don't say, "Geez, put on some wings and schtuff so you look like a REAL sports car!"......do you?

The Civic I was driving in this game could barely top 100 mph. That Civic sucked.

Most do. It's a very rare day when you see a Civic modded like a real car instead of a Hot Wheels.

I'm surprised you traded in the Supra TT for the GTO. Was it just because the GTO is your favorite? The Supra should whoop up on the GTO in about every category. Except maybe if it's the NEXT GTO....but I still doubt that.

I've only played GT1 and 2 - now I've got a PS2 it might be worth branching out (after my project's done and my exams are over)...

I loved the first two - I have ALL the cars in GT1 still saved on my memory card :D

/me loves the Viper on the unmodified races...

I'm wondering if I should get GT4 for the PS2 or wait and get it when the PSP comes out.

It's a racing SIMULATION. You obviously suck at the SIMULATION aspect of the game, not the game itself. Arcade mode is simplified, and equalized. My father can beat me at GT3 with just about any car in the same category as my own, simply because he's got driving skills. This game is about practice, and learning the dynamics of the car you own, NOT about flying down the straight aways and owning everyone immediatly.

That's because, if they had realistic damage models...can you imagine how fast any backing from any car company would be taken away? I'll give you a hint: VERY.
