Halflife installation into Steam
2005-03-06, 1:22 PM #1
Well, I installed steam a while ago when I got HL2, but my Half life (1 not 2) didn't switch to steam. Now I can't update my Natural Selection unless HL is in steam, so how can I install HL into steam?

Hmm. Tried double-clicking it on the Steam menu?

In the "Play Games" window, click on "Browse Games" at the bottom, then "Register a product I already own" at the bottom of the new window. Enter your HL1 cd-key. VoilĂ .

It say's it's in use, I'm assuming because I've already registered it long before I got steam...

No, it's because some pirate keygened your key and is using it. Steam's website has information on resetting it.

If you have HL2, you get everything before it. Meaning all you have to do is click on "Play Games", and double click on HL1.

You only get that with the Silver edition on Steam and those games aren't included with the regular retail edition AFAIK

I thought it came with bronze too... I personally don't see any reason for ANYONE to get ANY retail version. No DOD:S, no HL collection...damn...

Ya, I bought retail HL2, not silver.

Is there a way I can get my key reset without sending valve $10.00? I already bought my game, I refuse to pay another $10 just to install a mod. (I can still play over lan without steam, but newer mods are becoming steam install only :()

If I wasn't currently using the account I used for HL1, I'd give that to you.

Thanks anyway. And before others offer that, I wouldn't accept. I would have no way of knowing if it was warez (even though I trust most of you to know better)

I'm more hopeing for a free way to reset the key, if possible.

Are you saying you've already registered the key on steam?

if so, you should use that account.
