Well its time to buy a new card, the old Gforce 4 Ti4200 needs to go. I have been out of the tech loop for a wile and I don’t know what to buy. I'm willing to spend in the area of $150 give or take, It also needs to be an AGP card. I would like to be able to play the new games like Doom 3 and HL 2. My current system specs are not the good but I put in a order to Newegg on Sat to do a little upgrading. Let me list off what I bought: CoolerMaster Cavalier 3 Case, 512 DDR400 x2 (Rosewill) RAM, Athlon XP 3000+ Processor, ThermalTake SilentBoost HSF, WinXP Home (Win98 is old dur!), Logitec MX 510 Mouse. The old stuff I’m using is my Matsonic MS8147C+ VIA KT400/A Mobo that I have had for wile, SoundBlaster Live! 24bit and for now I have the old Ti4200 8x. I would have bought the card but I don’t want to spend the much money in one weekend. Please give me your ideas on what I need to buy and not pay an arm and a leg.

The 6600GT would be the best bang for your buck, I think they probably go for $180-200US, I'm not sure though.

For $150 a 9600XT would be a good choice. It's the card I have. I'm able to run Far Cry, Doom 3, and HL2 at high detail. No AA or AF in Far Cry or Doom 3, but I can jack HL2 up pretty damn high.

6600GT > 9600XT

Not trying to be fanboyish. It's just true.

A 9600XT would be a waste of money, seeing as you can get a 6600GT for $30 more. I own an ASUS 9600xt, but I wouldn't recommend it to anybody anymore, not with the prices on the 6600's.

The 6600 goes for $200? How does it compare to a radeon 9800 pro performance wise?

The article's a bit old, but not much has changed.

Ah, thank you. /me pets his 9800 pro

I still love you...

Still, it's too expensive to be worth it over the 6600 :(

Yeah, what Ric says. A bit better.

6600GT, you won't regret it. Save the extra $$ for it, and you'll be very happy.

I'd reccommend 9600XTs for ~100-120, but they're rare finds at that price. After that, it's basically the 9800 or the 6600GT.

While we are on the topic...

To anyone who can afford it, I would whole-heartedly recommend the x800xl pci-e card. I just got mine running in my new machine and it blows me away, especially for the price. ($299)

How much you want for the GeForce 4 >.> <.<
Think while it's still legal.

Hell yes! But nobody has PCI-E and is in the range of it. I think there's a card coming out for the AGP market that's someone the same (X800 XR or something...I may be wrong)
