My girlfriend and I recently had our 6month anniversary out at her cabin. We took 3 rolls of film while there, but some may or may not contain material of questionable ethics. Does anyone know of any place that doesn't object to certain things when developing film? I know safeway and bartell drugs in my area don't. I've heard that costco will develop them, though.

BTW I'm in the seattle area if anyone knows of something around here. THANKS

btw the winner gets to see the photos if they desire;)

Any real camera shop will do it. If you can find one in your area, they would definitely develop them.

Stay away from Wal-Mart, Walgreens, CVS, or pretty much any other place that offers 1-hour photo. Sometimes they wont even warn you that they wont develop those kinds of pictures so be careful.

As long as it doesn't contain anything like child pornography, I'm fairly certain that the photo shop can't do anything about what's on the photos.

Like wolfy said, as long as it's nothing illegal they'll do it. Just mention it at the counter when you drop your film. I had pictures of assault rifles develloped, I just warned them when I gave them my film and there was no problem.

I just can't see why the photo people that work behind the counter has to look at your photos. I mean, why do they have to look at your pictures? I guess to make sure they came out right. *shrug*

Is the process even manual? They probably have some kind of automation, even if limited.

At ASDA (subsidiary of Wal-Mart in the UK), they put the photos in the pack by hand, and at least flick through them once to mark any photos with errors with stickers saying things like 'This is not a developing error' for photos which are all 'Thumb over lensed'...

But yeah, i wouldn't worry, I'm sure they'll've seen worse :)

Yeah, like that guy from the JNO clan on the Zone who, for his website and for JK screenshots, took photos of the screen, had them developed and then scanned them in...wow.

My wife used to work in a photo lab at Walgreens. It's completely automated. However, these machines are not closed off in any way. The pictures are easy to see from in front of the counter of any of these 1-hour type places. You can literaly watch every picture move through the process and can ussually get a pretty good look at them. And yes, they have to look at them for quality reasons. In case there are ink or other printer related problems (for which they generally have no other indication of other then the quality of the photo).

Yeah they often have to look at them. Most of the process is automated, but they still check for bad pics sometimes.

Digital or Polaroid is my vote for next time.

I know of nothing in the seattle district. Heck, I know nothing about film shops.
If you really want to make sure noone objects, you could always develop them yourself. :) Unless, it doesn't work with these new films... Just a suggestion.

As said before, use a digital camera next time. I'm pretty sure they were invented for the sole purpose of taking pictures of "material with questionable ethics". But anyways, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You can always just drop them off with a fake name in case they're *******s and call the cops or something (assuming it's that type of questionable ethics). Which is extremely unlikely to happen.

But he didn't say that the pictures would feature him. The photos could be pictures of heroin, dead bodies, etc.

In american a nude photo of ANYONE under the age of 18 is considered Child porn.

Why must people take pictures of everything? Does the camera of the mind mean nothing anymore?

And somehow I get the idea that the original question was never "purely hypothetical".

my polaroid camera was broken, and no digital cam cuz it's not mine to take on vacations. Oh well, I'll go try a local photo place as per your guys' suggestions.

Oh, Emon, the answer is D - all of the above

Well since you live in the Seattle area, this should pertain to you: I'll tell you about Fred Meyer's photo developing process and standards, since I work in the department.

First of all, yes, it's almost all automated. (Our store, at least) has one machine for developing the film, and another for making the prints. When the film goes through the print machine, we adjust each picture's brightness and contrast (since no one knows how to use the flash), and thus, we see every picture we develop.

Now, we are not allowed to develop and print anything illegal without first contacting some sort of authority, which on my level is usually the manager/store director/loss prevention specialist, and that includes anything that may even remotely look like it could be child pornography. We take no chances. We are also not allowed, simply through policy, to develop and sort of "penetration," or any other sort of sexual conduct. Naked people we can develop, in context. Everyone once and awhile we get an awesome batch ladies-giving-birth pictures...it's no fun, but we print them.

I imagine places like Wal-Mart have very similar procedures for their photo labs. Hope this helps.

If there's any 1v1 wang action, I'll take a few pics.
2005-03-07, 2:58 PM #25
Ok it sounds like our pictures should be just on the side of developable by fred-meyers standards. But I'll probably still take em to the local photo place anyways just to be safe.

Thanks for the help guys.

that's an odd policy. I mean, it's not illegal to do, so why should there be any problem with taking pictures of it?
Sure, it might be awkward for the photo dude, but that's his job.

Well don't worry about it if you are both over 18 or whatever the legal consent age is in your state. If under... Umm... Costco might be the best choice...

Dont ask me how I know this, but there are places that specialise in exactly what you're after. You mail your roll of film off to them, then a few days later you get it back in the mail developed. Of course they promise 'completely discrete, confidentiallity ensured' and all the rest of it, so how many interenet porn sites they will ultimately end up on is probably up to how hot you and your partner are.

Google it :)
