Jury Duty

Well a few months ago I got a summons to appear for Jury duty - the only thing is that the courthouse they called me to was much farther away from my house than another court house (For those familiar with MA, I live in Watertown and was assigned to Lowell). Well after much of an ordeal I managed to get switched to Cambridge (just one city over from where I live). So that's the preface to this situation. Anyways, I get to the courthouse monday morning and have to wait in this HUGE line just to get checked in, then I'm seated in a waiting area for several hours before getting called to a courtroom where they do the empanelment. Then, out of over a hundred people I get picked as one of the 14 jurrors (12 with two alternates). So Now for the last two days and likely for the rest of the week I have been reporting to the courthouse instead of going to work. It is the absolute most boring time I have ever had in my entire life - It's worse than Driver's Ed. Any other massassians have jury duty experience?

I was summoned not too long ago. I had to have it postponed because they pull my name during my semester. A royal pain in the ***. I was never selected to a panel but I've been summoned before. It's a long and VERY boring process. Have fun!

You think that's bad?

I had to have my service postponed to Spring break.

There goes all my fun down the s***ter if I get elected to a jury.

You couldn't go farther? I got it posponed all the way until May. Unless L.A. County does things different.

Elana14, I guess you never heard of the trials that go on for weeks.

I've never had the misfortune of been called up for jury but I've worked with some. You've just got to make the most out of it. Some people find they actually enjoy it after a while

From what I hear that almost never happens. It's rare to see them going on for more than a few days.

Just watch them cloister you, Otterbine. Then you'll have fun.

But how many cases are there that aren't like that? way too many to count.

If you have to go down to the court house, and you want to not be selected, you have to present yourself as extremely biased toward the prosecution or defense so the DA or defense lawyer dismiss you.

Is race and religion a deciding factor in that selection period? I assume they don't do that.

It can be.. Your selection is based on the lawyers compromise , so there's no reasen Mr. Defense Attorny would want Mr. Conservative Christian hearing the story of Mr. Child Porn Salesman.

Pretty funny I'd say. I liked Son in Law and Encino Man more though.

In the case that I'm involved in the victim is black and the defendants are white - all of the black jurors were dismissed.

One reason why I may have been chosen is because the defendants are young and so am I, probably thought they would get some sympathy from having a young jury.

[edit]Oh, and "In the army now" was far superior to "Jury Duty".... but how good can a Pauly Shore movie really be?

Those were all really high profile murder cases.

And I don't think Scott Peterson's trial took very long. BTW that happend near my City.
