The 2-dollar bill thread.

Using different sizes and colours for notes makes it a lot easier to tell the difference between 'em.

Silly Americans.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

I guess we are weird. For some reason numbers actually make it easy for us to tell our bills apart. :p

All notes have numbers on them, but what is quicker:

Taking the note out and reading the number on it
or
Glancing at the size and colour of the note

You can evaluate size and colour subconsciously, but not numbers.

Euros are easier to just pull out and use. And they're prettier than greenbacks.

Why does it matter? If your born in the U.S. and you use the currency all your life, all it takes is a glance to recognise a bill. Besides, it's our money, not yours.:p

I do the same thing, but with all of my coins. I've put away about $80 since January in coins. Now if we were using bills for $1 and $2 instead of coins, I'd have considerably less.

Everytime I go to america I like to use a bunch of 1$ bills just because it makes me feel richer. :D

Makes sense. Four one-dollar bills (USA's lowest bill) feels the same as four five-dollar bills (our lowest bill) for us. Hooray for false richness stuff! :p

Ugh. They look terrible. Well, I never found the US's attempt to add colorful money really good.

The last attempt at a dollar coin in the US (the golden dollar) was a complete failure. Everyone treated them like collector's items and kept them instead of spending them.

The government spent a fortune advertising the coins hoping to save money on continually reprinting the widely used, and therefore most quickly damaged, $1 note.

Lesson: people are retarded.

But hey, I have one I won't spend as well, and that's because I know I'll never see one again, so maybe we're all just mutually-assured of the supidity of those around us.

Yeah, it was stupid. They got dirty and ugly pretty quickly too. I spent them, but I never see them any more. Probably because every one saw them and thought: "Whoa! A dollar coin!! OMQ! I'll save them all and be rich!!" Stupid TV commercials about how rare the newest piece of circulation will be and how you can "own your very own piece of American history for only 19.95 plus S&H" didn't help either.

Let's not forget that the golden dollar coin was often mistaken as a quarter when in the pocket (or wherever). I usually "feel" for my coin money in my pocket.

But I liked that coin.

Yeah but most of those coins are minted by foreign countries.

The dollar coins (Sakagawea, I'm sure spelled wrong) are used quite abit still. Not nearly as widely as bills but many vending machines from post offices to airports routinely dispense them. Hell, I remember the big fuss over the Susan B. Anthony coin. Don't think I have any of those right now. I have a couple Eisenhowers though.

If your money is different sizes then you can't stack it! What would the neat freaks do?

That's odd, because for Christmas my uncle gave me 15 2 dollar bills and I thought the same thing you did. They were even fresh and crisp.

Go to the Post Office and buy stamps from one of their machines. If your change is more than a $1, I guarantee you'll get a $1 coin.

As a high school graduation gift, I was given $300...in gold dollar coins. Yes, three hundred $1 "gold" pieces. I've since depleted my cash reserves :(
