Can anyone recommend a good, reliable, free, downloadable C++ compiler supported by Windows? Thank you.

Um, sorry, I wasn't sure if this had to go in the Technology Forum, so I posted it here because I'll get more views (and hopefully replies) here anyways. I apologize in advance to any administrator and/or moderator that will have to move/close/delete this thread if it does belong elsewhere. I'm sorry. :(

What version of windows do you have? Cause I'm pretty sure M$ offers their compiler as a free download.

I don't really know of any other good compilers....digital mars maybe?

XP. I dunno. Doesn't Microsoft have that Visual C++ deal? Isn't it really expensive? I'd rather have a "brand neutral" compiler. Just one that works under Windows.

Visual C++ Toolkit 2003

I'd use that. But if you don't want to, well, I'll let someone else take it from there.

Dev-C++ is the best option after Visual Studio.

Definately go for Dev-Cpp. It's the next best thing to Visual Studio.

There is the C++ plugin for Eclipse, not sure how good it is. Eclipse as an IDE is one of the best I have ever used, it's years ahead of Dev-C++. The C++ plugin probably just adds some syntax stuff and compiler support. However much of Eclipse IS made for stuff that's Java only (or only useful for Java) so you may lose some of the acclaimed functionality.
