Cool news. It was quite evident the TNG cast's interest in the show was badly dwindling during Insurrection, and Nemesis certainly was the final nail in the coffin. This new movie could potentially be very interesting, if they find good actors.

And with a person who helped with Band of Brothers, I hope there will be plenty of realism: That's one of the foremost things why I liked Enterprise.

I didn't start watching Enterprise until a few months ago. I'm sad to see it gone, for it was quite good.

This could be interesting, just as long as Berman doesnt get his way...

The earlier episodes may have been poor, but this last season is pretty awesome.

I loved Insurrection. Patrick Stewart, and the whole TNG cast were quite enjoyable, and I enjoyed the low-key, more down to earth (well, whatever the planet's name was) story as opposed to First Contact, which I didn't enjoy at all. I agree though, Nemesis was truly an embarrasment to the Star Trek franchise.

I totally agree. I just saw a few episodes for the first time on Spike a few months ago, and I love the show! It feels just like TNG, only better special effects and some new cast. What I mean by that is, it was the same time era as TNG, Worf and O'Brien were in it, and you still got to see some of the TNG cast memebers from time to time. Many of the great story elements and races from TNG were still present, only you got to see the Dominion and the Cardassians more. I think the show is very underrated.

Interesting idea . . . a prequel to the first ST movie.

It might be worth watching. I thought ST was dead.

I was still holding out for a "final TNG" movie, as I too thought poorly of Nemesis. Though I put that in quotes because I would have liked to have seen something of a collaborative movie with some of the cast from DS9 and Voyager, moreso than the "guest" appearances they would make. Without a story worthy of Undiscovered Country for finality and meaning in all the sense, such a final movie could never be made.

I'm a bit skeptical/worried about this new movie, but we'll see.

Actually I should note that I also consider Insurrection one of the best ST movies. For the very same reason why you liked it. But I believe some of the cast members said already back then that it might be the last movie, and the whole thing was losing its appeal. Thus I was actually a bit suprised Nemesis was made with the same cast.

And you take it wrong, AK.

Yeah, you should buy all 7 seasons (If you got $700 to spare) of DS9 and watch them back to back.

Man, it might start a little slow as the first season was in getting its characters roles...

But damn, once the dominion war comes in - it's just an incredible epic multi-seasonalmost. I remember having to wait every single week for a new episode since it was so good at the end. Now you can just watch them all without waiting!

I can't decide which I like better overall though - DS9 or TNG. I really like how the way Sisko changed later in DS9 - especially the episode where he was looking at the casualty list and was like "Every person on here is not just a name..." Something like that...

I don't really like this prequel crap that Star Trek is obessed with now. It seems like cause they totally screwed up with Voyager that they think its cause people are tired of Star Trek and need something new.

Maybe what it needed was a good and believable plot, good actors, and just damn good writers.

If this new movie goes the way of prequels - I fear it's just more of the same old crap. At least I was alive remember when the joys of watching new episodes of TNG and DS9 occured each week. Now its nothing...

Although that one episode of the new Enterprise was amazing with Brent Spiner. The way they ended it and how if you watched his movements he started moving like Data.

Oh well - it seems weird how Star Trek seems more capable of writing a show for one hour then they are of making a two hour moving. Hell, even some of their two part episodes could've been better then some of the movies.

I thought First Contact was the best of the TNG crew movies. I 'm glad Star Trek isn't dead. It is good that they can continue it without making more TNG movies. I am really sorry that the Enterprise-E didn't get more screen time though.:(

I was most angry with Nemesis because stupid Janeway from Voyager got to be an admiral and Picard didn't. I mean, come on! Picard is the greatest captain of the entire Federation supposedly, and some lady gets to be admiral over him just because she got stuck on the other side of the galaxy? Where's the justice in that?

They should make a movie as a sequel to the TNG episode "Conspiracy". You know, the one with the aliens taking humans as hosts? Shut up, this is pre Stargate. Like 1988 or something.

They never resolved that episode, and it's always been a favorite of mine.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how/if a DS9 movie could properly work. I rather like how everyone went their own way at the final part of the episode. The only one's of the cast whom were left were Dax, Jake, Kira and Bashir. O'Brien left to teach on Earth, Odo rejoined his folks, Sisko went all Prophety, Worf became an ambassador, everyone just grew apart after an incredibly experience(ie. The Dominion). There wouldn't really be an easy way to bring them all together, I think, and I rather wish that they won't continue with the DS9 cast. They did a tremendous job during the shows, and I say, let's keep it at that.

Let the actors and the fictional characters have their well-earned rest, and then some.
The answer is maybe.

Owned. :)

Anyway, I think it could be good. Enterprise was getting good, before the axed it... I hope for the best with this one.

Any speculation on what it will be about? Here's to hoping the Romulan War.

YES! I've always thought the same thing. That was the creepiest TNG episode ever, and it should be resolved. Wasn't that the only episode to get a content warning when it first aired, or am I remembering that wrong?

I've seen Nemesis about 10x or less... solely because I've watched the other movies about 10x within the same time span. Trekkie? Obsessed? Should have asked me when I first got into TNG...

THe point is, the movie has many serious flaws.
For example, the movie is treated not as a character/story development, but as another EPISODE, such as all of the episodes of hte TV series. Seriously, watch it, it is a very excellent episode of TNG with older actors and slightly better effects.

There is nothing that they didn't show in the commercials, a big mistake, in terms of special effects, and the finale (ship crashing into another ship)

This movie didn't have what First contact had to Generations.
Character development. STory development. Or at least, they TRIED to have it, but it didn't work that well. It wasn't DEVELOPMENT, it was change. Troi and Riker were married, but the episode wasn't centered around it, it was merely a side-story that was mildly referred two once or twice. It also wasn't that interesting, it could have been made much more interesting.

ANother flaw was the time factor. Insurrection SHOULD have been better IMO, but it was adequate. I always felt like hollywood got to it, maybe Insurrection was the cheesey "Final Frontier" of the captain kirk movies (Final frontier was the title of the fifth, and debatedly crappiest, of the movies with the original series)

My point is, I was hoping for a huge deal for this last one (#10, nemesis). Maybe some closure. Maybe a world changing event, changing the federation forever. Maybe something that wasn't just monster of hte week, but another invasionesqu deal form first contact. Meet some beings that were trying to feed off human souls. I don't know. DON'T MAKE ANOTHER DATA CLONE! I mean seriously, we already had Lore in TNG, we dont' need another one. I was appalled that it was a crappy version of data, it didn't drive the story in any way. His alternate clone, Lor, was at least maniving and evil... I mean this one wasn't interesting. And it doesn't really pull off the "data's dead" feeling because "oh, there's hope, this crappy looking data might do something dataesque ofr teh sequal!?!?! OMQ!!!" .... no.

Or make it political, like Star Trek 6. Just something NEW and AWESOME. Kill captain riker... THAT would have been a good ending. Right after troi marries him. Kill Geordi. Leave a cliffhanger with Riker and Geordi dead, not even ending hte movie. I would love it.

But whatever you do, do NOT try to make another episode with the assumption that you have the same 11 million viewer audience that the show had at it's prime. No one remembers who the characters are at this point, so you can't have a semi-crappy episode in hopes that hte next one will be better.

I'm sure I have more points, but I just forgot my train of thought because I was proofreading this whole thing. I'll just stop there.

That doesn't mean that they cannot always rebuild the set.

There has to be a DS9 cast movie. If not that, at least something to explain what happened to Captain Sisko. Yes he became one with the Force Prophets. He also said that he was also coming back.

Just a note: Star Trek makes it very clear, especially in Generations, that the position of captain is far better than admiral.

This is true. DS9 was able to wholly wrap up its characters futures. O'Brien returns to teach at Starfleet Acadamy, Odo returns to his people, Worf becomes Federation Ambassador to Qo'nos, Garak helps rebuild his shattered world. Kira, Bashir and Dax (Ezri) are the only ones to remain. But they have nothing further or untold stories. So it would seem that Captain Sisko is the only one with "unfinished business," IMO.
