Okay I just got back from seeing Robots. The movie was pretty good, but there were a few things I wasn't fond of. The plot of the film was just your average follow your dream and you can make it type thing, but I didn't really mind that because it was presented with fresh jokes, action, and just overall fun. You would really think that Fox and Dreamworks would have caught up to Pixar by now, but no...they haven't.

Dreamworks and Fox both seem to think the key to a great movie is pop-culture references, farting jokes, loud music from the 70's and an all-star cast. This is the main reason these companies just can't beat Pixar. Shrek 2 was a pretty funny movie, but I can bet that in 50 years people won't find Shrek 2 as funny as before. Why? It was jam-packed with pop-culture references, and we all know in 50 years, what is hip and funny now won't be funny then. This is why I absolutley hated the movie Shark Tale. It was all famous actors jam packed into this noisy mess of a film. Every few mins into the film there was some chart-topping song blasting! Then movies such as The Incredibles and Monsters Inc. didn't have pop-culture jokes at all and they had scores by orchestras not by Smash Mouth.

Back to Robots. Robots didn't have many if any pop-cult. jokes, it for the most part stayed away from famous songs and it had a really great score that I am humming in my head as I type this. While this movie had an allstar cast, you wouldn't have really noticed. All the voices felt right for the most part. Robin Williams really stuck out, and I had memories of Genie from Aladdin. The improv on his part was great and it made the film a lot more fun. Stanley Tucci did a great job as did Ewan McGregor. There were atleast 10 more famous actors doing voices in this movie, Including Mel Brooks, Halle Berry, Drew Carey, Dianne Wiest, Amanda Bynes, *deep breath* Jamie Kennedy, and Paul Giamatti (there are a few more I forgot). Now do you see what I meant about an all-star cast? These voices could have just as easily been done by any other actor/actress with the exception of Mel Brooks, Tucci, and McGregor who fit their 'parts' perfectly. (parts...I crack myself up.)

The technical aspect of Robots was a HUGE improvement over Fox's last picture Ice Age which looked like garbage in my opinion .Robots did have a small section of farting jokes, and the movie DID end with a musical. People dancing and singing along...ala Sharktale...ala Shrek...ala...Shrek 2! Other then those minor details I reccomend Robots, and give it *** 1/2 out of *****. It was a fun movie, and people should see it, but don't expect Pixar calibur work.

It is common knowledge that Pixar owns the world.....I can't believe that Lucas actually did own Pixar for a while and then sold it.

All the reviews I've read say that it's painfully generic animated movie fare, which I really don't like. Stupid follow your dreams! Stupid cute little robot-themed names. Stupid little songs!

I plan not to see it. :p

Robin Williams plays HL2 and all the mods, and his son plays WC3.

Drew Carey has 10 computers in his house lanned for MOH:AA ONLY.

Whoa D.J. Yoshi, you're right about Robin Williams being a big Half-Life 2 gamer.
You weren't kidding about Drew Carey either.
Vin Diesel also played Dungeons and Dragons for 24 years.

I went and saw it with a few friends on Friday. It kicked *** and was better than I expected it would be.

Mel Brooks was awesome... Some of his lines were things you'd NEVER expect to hear him say. And Robin Williams... Hell, he's ALWAYS awesome.

I remember a friend told me a few years ago about her brother, a great person who works for a software retail store in Helsinki, how Robin Williams came in out of the blue one summer day... and purchased a copy of Operation: Flashpoint.

How cool is that? The man's got taste :)

Damn! He really does. OFP is a very nice game.

Hmm... I wonder if Robin Williams ever released any custom missions for it? :p

That'd be so amazing if they started a clan called Robin Williams, and all his followers joined, and it was like a cult... and... and.... *runs*

I thoroughly enjoyed Robots.

It is a children's movie, so don't expect too much from it. You will probably guess the entire storyline after the first ten minutes, so don't expect to be surprised. It does have some fairly clever jokes, too.. Oh, man.. like when they get the baby.. heh. Robot jokes is one field I haven't seen explored much before, so some of it was quite funny.

This is an excellent children's film, so if you're babysitting or something and you have to take some ten year olds out to see something, this is definitely a winner, because you'll both end up enjoying it. If you're out and looking for a genuinely good film, then no, probably not.

Robin Williams, Mel Brooks, and robots. How could this movie be anything but good? Hopefully I'll get out to the theaters soon and see it.
