so we did fireballs for a lab on friday. take a funnel with the tube on the end connected to the gas line and then put the end of the funnel in bubble solution. blow a bubble and once it releases, pop it with a candle.

here's how to make a good flamethrower:

find a can of wd-40 or silicone spray

get one of those direct-spray red straws that fit into the end.

light the end of the straw on fire (just don't let it burn too long) A safer way is to aim it at a lit match.

spray some of the stuff from the can .

instant flamethrower.

Caution: This stuff burns HOT, so don't spray any on anything that may burn. I shot some at some tinfoil i laid on the ground and it melted nearly immediately.

It's safe enough as long as you don't let the flamethrower burn for too long or do anything stupid. I used this to destroy a beehive on my metal shed once.

You suck. We never got to do anything fun like that... The administrators were always worried that the building would catch on fire or something....

yeah the fire almost always hits the ceiling. and the fire extinguishers... they should go off or something...

We used to have methane bubbles that exploded in high school chemistry, until the janitors complained about not being able to clean the scorch marks off of the ceiling.

Hehe, I remember doing that back in highschool. I have video of it somewhere.... darn, not on this comp. Balloons of hydrogen, bubbles of natural gas, alcohol-propelled coke bottles (yes, we did all this indoors...)

Also, I've tried the flamethrower thing, except I used a can of bugspray. I recommend to anyone that does it that you use a barbeque lighter instead of a regular one, because with a regular lighter your hand is close enough that it has a propensity for lighting on fire. And yes, I know this from experience. Very painful experience.

You suck then...

You only need the lighter SUPER quick, because the flame will keep itself lit....

I've filled up baloons with welding gas and Oxygen and shot them with roman cnadles before.

the best thing to do is to actually take a small candle, a wire coathanger and fashion a rod with a candle balance on the end of the can. Usually you can use a piece of cardboard on the end of the hanger to glue the canlde to.

We did that with balloons in chemistry. So much more potential when you use balloons. ;)

Lighting the gas taps is always fun. You really don't expect it to act the way it does...

We did a liquid steel bomb in physics. It completely wasted a table and burnt a big hole in the floor, but it was worth it! :D

The SQA suck, we aren't even allowed to make thermite at the end of the year anymore like we used to

We never ever got to do that, the best we got was dissolving some random chemicals that explode in water. We got to see a container explode, literally. it was amazing.

i dunno. we got some bubbles bigger than most ballons. plus theres no unpleasantly loud pop every time one lights. you just see a huge orange glow from one side of the room every 30 seconds or so. it was so cool.

While our teachers back in high school did throw potassium and sodium in water, which was fun, the most fun stuff I've ever been allowed to play with is liquid nitrogen. And that was in University Physics.

today, we were making hydrogen gas with sulfiric acid and zinc. My lab partner and I capped the flask we had the reaction in, letting the gas build up. Then I proceeded to put a match over the top of the flask. Well pure hydrogen is pretty flammable, and a 3 foot pillar of fire shot out of the flask, burning my hand and lauching the match into the ceiling.
But all our fears fall on deaf ears.

Tonight, they're burning the roads they built to lead us to the light.

psh. We don't even have a chemistry class at our highschool anymore. There's a class but they don't have a lab anymore and they never did anything cool when they did. We have to cut open cats though. It smells like a gopher grenade.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

Yeah. Best lab. We destroyed an orange, a pencil, a rubber ball, a styrofoam cup, and a number of other things. Strangely enough, the only thing we could destroyed was a KVJ Bible.
