or died trying?

Just in case you don't know: Frank Morris and John and Clarence Anglin built a raft out of raincoats and broke out of Alcatraz. However they were never found.

clicky!

Your thoughts?

Yes. It's just that its echo is extremely quiet - this was done on Mythbusters.

A duck's quack does echo, and it's possible that they escaped, though not probable.

They also tested the Alcatraz escape... from what I remember they decided it was plausible, but I don't remember.

I think they managed to break out of the prison but were killed trying to get across the bay.

I caught that episode of Mythbusters and I believe it's plausible that they got away, but I strongly doubt that they did. Their raft would have been a lot crappier than Adam and Jamie's and probably sank in the middle of the bay.

Exactly. They did manage to escape, theres no doubt about that. Odds are, however, that they didnt survive for very long while free.

They were in jail and it was the early 60's, I'm assuming the materials they had used to build the raft weren't as good as what Adam and Jamie used.

They were exactly the same. Didn't you listen? At first they got a shipment of raincoats made out of the superior PVC, which they had trouble using the old rubber glue on. They had to hunt for the old fashioned kind. It would have taken a lot of time, time that they had. The raft WAS found, they just never were. Considering the evidence post escape, it's pretty likely they made it. It's not even that far to just drift so long as you stay concious.

But tides and cold water have to be factored in. The SF Bay is freaking cold. I know this from personal experience.
