Sleep - How long does it take you

Ok, on the average day, when you lay down with intent to fall asleep - how long does it take?
Not counting reading in bed..
It's taken me well over an hour for as long as I can remember. I hate it when people can just lay down, and fall asleep in a couple minutes, if that. I have to go a couple days without sleep, or be really exausted to do that. I hate people who can sleep easily.
2005-03-16, 11:16 PM #2
2-3 hours average. 2 or 3 days a week I don't sleep
diagnosed insomnia, abused my sleep meds so I don't get any more....

but hey, I'm now perfectly adapted to running on 2 hours of sleep for 36 hours on a regular basis. Although, that doesn't include anything besides work then sitting on my *** because I'm too tired to acknowledge existence.

It takes me about 2-5 minutes each night.

Edit: But in the morning, it usually takes me about 1.5-2 hours to wake up no matter how much I want to wake up.

Varies. Sometimes I pass right out (esp after a night in the town). Othertimes I lie there staring at the ceiling.

If I've got a lot on my mind, 30 mins to an hour
If I've been up for a day or more/am really tired/am reading I usually fall asleep accidently, so... 1 second
If I want to sleep and it's been a normal day, 5-10 minutes
2005-03-16, 11:38 PM #6
Depends, I usually am one of those people that falls asleep right when there head hits the pillow, but lately (with stress from midterms and such) it takes me close to 4-6 hours each night. But those evil things are over now...so maybe sleep will come easier...>_>

[Edit: for got to put a unit on that 4-6]

15-30 minutes most of the time. Lately, it's been more skewed toward the 15 minute side of the range since I'm really active every day of the week now.

Depends on what kind of mood I'm in.

I only sleep every other day when I'm "blue."

It usually takes me like an hour to fall asleep though, and I usually, when I can, sleep about 12 hours straight.

4-6 what? Seconds? Hours? Thats a lot of hours.

It usually takes me about an hour if I've been up for a good amount of time.

About an hour usually.

Yay, I'm normal!
2005-03-17, 12:28 AM #11
It depends. I guess an hour on average. When my mind is over active with numerous thoughts or I'm excited about something, it can take about 2-3 hours.

Used to take absolute ages, when i even could, for as long as i can remember. Though, once i moved away from sleeping on a bed to sleeping on a self-styled bedroll on the floor i tend to sleep better actually, combined with last 6 months or so popping melatonin every night, it is so my friend.
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

hmm... depends on how much ive eaten before i go to bed. food makes me sleepy. the quickest ever was probably last year after coming back from germany when i slept from 11pm till 12:30pm the next day. that took me less than a minute and i am not joking.

the longest its taken me? well i sometimes have a coffee or coke before i go to bed, which i admit is quite stupid  and then it takes me about 1 hour at least. one time, i remember i watched an entire series of red dwarf before falling asleep, lol

Maybe you should stay up during nights and sleep during daytime. Mice are, after all, nocturnal creatures.

1 or 2 hours. Sometimes less, sometimes more. Usually depends on what I've been doing during the day.

Though sometimes it changes radically, I think it's somewhere around 30 minutes.

5-10 minutes. It's easy to fall asleep, just close your eyes and try thinking of 'nothing' it gets boring fast and u mind wanders off into a nice sleep.

That's pretty much my sleep pattern, except I sleep 2-3 hours a day.

Ohh about 15-20 minutes. About 30 minutes to an hour if I had a rough day/night. All depends for the most part. And if I come inside exhausted and tired i'll fall straight asleep, like many others as mentioned before.
Mmmm.

All depends on what I do that day, it ranges from 10min to 2 hours.

Whenever i can get away with it [eg don't have early uni courses, i absolutely do just that. Or more commonly wake up in the evening and stay up 'til almost dawn.

I tend to go to bed at about 3am, usually takes 1 hour to get to sleep, sometimes 2 hours. I get up whenever I have to, if I don't have to get up i'm asleep till 2pm.

If i've had an early start I tend to accidentally fall asleep during the day, thus allowing me to stay awake till 4am, thus never allowing me to fix my sleep cycle.

I fall asleep within 30 minutes usually. I can't stand it when I lay in bed for longer than that.
2005-03-17, 12:58 PM #31
Depends on how tired I am. Usually on a school day when I do get into bed it takes 2-5 minutes. Occasionally it takes me an hour, or more (that is usually when I am not tired at all or too distracted).

10-20 minutes usually. If you think you're over 20 or 30, you're probably not unless you've been diagnosed with insomnia. It just always feels a lot longer than it usually is. Plus we remember the awful times it takes so long the most.

My roomate though, can fall asleep within a minute or two. On nights were he's up late especially, he climbs into bed and is snoring within a minute.

My sleep patterns are pretty eratic. Sometimes it takes up to 4 or 5 hours at night, sometimes under an hour. It depends on how depressed/preoccupied I am.

Usually 15-20 minutes, but sometimes up to an hour if my mind is overactive.

Some of us have clocks visible from our beds, I can quite easily judge the passage of 2 hours with such a device. I'd say about 1/2 of the times I go to sleep it takes about an hour.

No idea. I fall asleep before I can check the clock to see how long it has taken.
