Can't honestly say I really care much for 3D cinema. Been to IMAX only once in my life, saw some rubbish little film about a T-Rex with Mark Wahlberg's wife from Three Kings playing a fifteen year-old in it. It had an absurd and silly story, which just served as an excuse for the 3D effects. Impressive enough I thought, but I wouldn't want to see a feature-length film like it, it can draw much needed attention from some of the more important elements of film.

I agree. If all the directors care about is the eye candy, the movie can get pretty boring.

On the other hand, who doesn't like staring at pretty things?

Eh.. yeah... well the IMAX movie I saw, you had to wear the stupid glasses and everything. It all looked like it came out the screen, sort of.

I saw an Imax movie in boston once... it was pretty damn cool, actually.

Imax is a special theater where the screen is about 70 feet tall and wide, and the projector is super-bright and stuff. It's very impressive.
DO NOT WANT.

Basically, a cinema with a very big screen, some of the films are shown in 3D.

i love the one in minneapolis. not only is it a huge screen, but its curved around the audience and is lowered for each showing. think of it like that gold visor on space helmets. so damn cool. i saw episode 2 on there i think... i kinda remember it.

Also, if I remember correctly, IMAX reels are on 70mm film (compared to normal 32mm feature film) and I've heard that some specifically filmed features are filmed and screened at 48 fps, instead of 24 fps (?).

I remember seeing an astronaut documentary in an imax theatre. Pretty immersive having your peripheral vision covered. They demonstrated disorientation by having the typical fun-house "tunnel of turning spots" effect projected which worked disturbingly well due to the size of the projection dome.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

OMNIMAX is even better, it's projected onto this dome-ish screen that really enhances the effect. Drop a camera out of a building when filming an IMAX, and you'll **** your pants watching it.

Although I'm not complaining at all about the idea of 3D versions of the Star Wars movies but... how many FREAKING TIMES is Lucas gonna keep remastering his films? Leave them alone already man! Stop turning these good films into a cash cow! Sheesh.

As much as I agree with you, the films ARE his livlihood. He has to keep people interested in them for as long as he can. If he stops, then he stops getting money.

Plus, for the OT his ambitioins were too far ahead of technology. You'd be amazed at the amount of technology/methods he and his crew have created over the years. When ANH was made, the plan was always to have Jabba CG'ed in, but he couldn't due to budget constraints, hence the Special Edition later on.

The films are his livelihood?

The man's already a billionaire, and he will continue to make plenty of money from THX, Skywalker Sound, ILM and LucasArts for many years to come.

1) Jabba was originally a human, he was only an alien after Return of the Jedi was made.
2) It doesn't explain/excuse Greedo shooting first.

George Lucas makes his vision up as he goes along, I have no problem with this, I just wish he didn't lie about it.

1) No, Jabba was always supposed to be an alien, the human was his front man for public experiences. There's an interview with GL that was done years ago and he talks about this.

2) Yeah, Han shot first, but GL's latest interviews say that Greedo always hot first, you just didn't see it, or some bull**** like that.

As I understood it, Jabba was originally supposed to be a hairy humanoid character, like a Wookie (I don't think he was supposed to actually be a Wookie, but a similar race). The scene from ANH in the docking bay on Tattooine was shot with a guy in a big furry jacket that they were going to replace with the actual Jabba character. That got left on the cutting room floor until the Special Edition.
