I just bought WOW tonight, thinking it was fine to not purchase a game card yet because you get a month free... HEre I go, taking my joyous *** home, installing the game, and creating an account, only to find out, you HAVE to purchase a game card in order to create an account and get your free month... Im noy payin by credit card...

Damnit. I neverknew that, I will be able to get a game card tomorrow no problem, I have more than enough money. My gripe is that I didn'tknow that I HAD to have this in order to play at all tonight... So now, the game is just sitting there.. staringatme.. but not able to be played...

Sucks to be you!

No wait... I bought HL2.

The only MMORPG I've ever played that ACTUALLY gave you your month free no strings attached was Dark Age of Camelot.

If you use a credit card, Freelancer, there are no strings attached.

I suffered the same problem Tempermental, but I just drove back to Futureshop and bought the card, which only took about 15 extra minutes.

So worth it

Yeah, you need to provide billing info in order to get an account. However, they won't bill you at all until your free month is up so if you don't like the game and quit early, no worries.

...Also, pray that you get on a bad server that goes down a lot (aka my server, Uther :P ) because when it goes down for a long time, they extend your month a bit :)

If you have a credit card, or parent with one, enter it for now. Once you get the game card (before your free month is up) then go to billing info and enter the game card's information instead of the credit card's.

The credit card won't get charged because you'll switch before the billing date. If you don't have a parent or card of your own, well.. sorry.

Bah, if you still have the chance, return WoW and get EQ2. It's got an amazing engine, content and there aren't any "bad servers." Or you could always go with Lineage 2; it doesn't cost anything, has the same simplistic gameplay that WoWers seem to like, and better graphics.

Or if you've got a lot of free time, go with SOE and get an all-access pass and you'd have access to EQ1, EQ2, SWG and PlanetSide, which are all awesome in their own ways.

Also, it's spelled dammit; damnit isn't a word. =D

Well if we're thinking outside the box, my suggestion changes to: If you haven't played an MMO yet, don't start. If you already have played them and currently are, find a support group to help you quit.

It's a serious behavioral addiction and you're better off avoiding it if you can. You'll probably say, "How can it be worse than single player or non-MMO MP games?" Trust me, it's much worse. There's gambling disguised as a "loot system," the issue of the persistent world and falling behind in it, getting attached to your characters, etc. etc.

It's not healthy and, if you still have the option, take back whatever box(es) you have.

Ragnarok Online gives you 15 days free, no billing info required. (And theoretically you can play forever this way, you can sign up as much as you want, but you have to start a new character each time.)

SWG was like that. In fact, I played the free month, stopped for a couple months (school) and then started again.

Start it up with credit card

Play free month

Buy game card

Cancel subscription

Start new one with gamecard.

That or get off your lazy bee-hind and buy a gamecard right now ;)

Meh, WOW for 8 hours a day = Any other game for 8 hours a day

Yeah, MMO's are like the crack of the gaming world.

I did the exact same thing. Then I cried myself to sleep that night.

There needs to be a Dawn of the Dead MMO where you kill zombies and stuff. Once you gett bitten, you slowly turn into one, then when you turn, you fight the living as a zombie. When you bite someone, you get to be living again and that person turns. When you die, you get to be living again, too. There won't be any levels, because everyone can kill the zombies since they don't change in difficulty unless you have a large group of them. You can break into buildings and stores and steal things (that's how ya get your armor and weapons). People can make communities or hideouts in buildings be barracading the entrances. It'd be cool.

Or he could keep WoW and play a game that DOESN'T suck.

:p
(Please note I haven't played EQ2 and my opinion may be slightly biased as I am sleeping with my WoW box.)

EQ2 is terrible in my opinion. I played that trial of the isle thing. Uuuguhguh

Actually.. all MMOs give you "free play" until they collect for the first time. Most MMOs don't collect 1 month after you start playing, but instead, they collect from everyone at the same time, to make it easy. So you can up to a month free, or as little as 1 day.

Or... not. I've played all of those, and World of Warcraft is far superior in almost every way. This coming from someone who played EQ1 for three years, PlanetSide for two, SWG for three, and loved every day of it.
Moo.

Problem with EQ2 is all the freaking zoning! Before I played, I figured there was like, one zone for each zity, and then zones for the different wilderness areas outside the city. But in reality, the ONE city I've been to has like freaking 50 zones! Every two blocks my computer has to LOAD LOAD LOAD it's so freaking aggravating!
2005-03-19, 12:05 PM #22
EQ2 is far prettier than WoW, but it sucks.

The reason I didnt go back and get a game card last night was that I didnt have a vehicle available to me to drive there and get it.. I'm going there in a few hours once Im outta work here, then I'll just play all night otnight and all day tomorrow since I got it off work. =)
