Paintball Hair

I went paintballing with a couple of friends this afternoon in a course(?) he made. It had a few boards sticking out of the ground and some metal pieces to hide behind. Absolutely horrible course. Worse yet, my friends decided a "1 vs. 1" thing would be cool. No. 1 on 1 plaintball is standing behind a board and letting your friends paintballs hit it. It's not FUN. But while we were doing this, I hid behind a piece of metal. I saw a paintball come, and ducked down. It HIT THE METAL, and sprayed my mask, face, and HAIR with the paint/oilly crap. A few hours later, I found 1/2 a paintball in my HAIR. Weird... So is anyone in here a paintballer at all? And I'd like to know if speedball is any fun, because I got invited to a speedball place next weekend. Share, please.
I had a blog. It sucked.

*Humps thread*
I'm a paintball fanatic.
Speedball is.. well, awsome :)
You'll love it.
I'm in the process of parting out my 800 dollar setup now, I've owned setups worth well over a grand in the past.
I played just about every tournament in Maine with my team a while back. We never placed below 3rd, and placed 2nd in a 5 series event that was pretty saying "You're the 2nd best team in Maine"

First of all - COMMUNICATION. Talk to your teammates. Talk about if you want to move, need cover fire, will support with cover fire, where the opponents are, where they just moved, how many are left, etc. CONSTANTLY talk. Yell and scream, you get a guy yell "E-ONE!!! E-ONE!!! I GOT THE GUY IN THE *location* OUT!" Also yell the same thing when a teammate gets out. "HEY JOE JUST GOT OUT!!"

Second of all - Don't be scurred. Don't be stupid either, but don't be afraid of moving around to closer bunkers.

Don't be afraid to shoot alot. Just the sound of constant balls pelleting a new players bunker is enough to keep them pinned down and allow for a easy advance for your team.

.. bleh. I gotta go out for ab it. Post any specific questions you got and I'll answer them when I get back.

I play woodsball more, but will play speedball if everyone wants to. My local field has five courses, 2 are wooded, 2 are large speedball, and 1's a small airball field

I'm a pretty new player actually...I've only PLAYED 1 on 1 games, and those usually end up with one of us shooting all our paintballs, or running our of Co2. But I've got a Tippmann Custom 98, with stock barrel. I REALLY need a new barrel...stock sucks. I've got some woods behind my house, and a creek which could make for some hold-the-bridge games, but what I really need is to have more than ONE friend out to go paintballing cuz...2 PEOPLE DON'T CUT IT!

Q. How many testers does it take to change a light bulb?
A. We just noticed the room was dark; we don't actually fix the problems.

Yea, upgrade that stock to a NyteStick ASAP. You can get it for like 10 bucks if you look in the right places, but a feild will probably charge you like 20 bucks for it new. Or maybe more, it's been to long since I've dealt with my tippmann.

Here's the thing:
Don't think a barrel will make you have better accuracy. That has nothing to do with it. The stockk barrel is crap, I'll admit that, but the biggest thing about accuracy is: Having GOOD balls, and having balls that fit your barrel. If you want accuracy, spend the extra 10, 15, bucks for the better brand of paint. Ask around the feild for a single ball to test out the different paint balls if you can. Put the ball at one end of the barrel (threaded side, so theres no porting) ... if it goes down with little resistance, don't get those balls. If it gets jammed enough so when you blow on it it doesn't go through, don't get it. It should be able to go through with an average powered blow. that is the perfect brand you want.

1 on 1 games suck. You havn't played paintball yet. Wait till you play some good 5v5 or more speedball. That's what its about.

thanks for the advice squirrel, I'll check the paintballs tommorrow. And if I go to a public field, should I worry about people cranking the speed on their paintball guns up to max and shooting me? because regular shots don't hurt much...but that kinda scares me...and the local course has like...4 speedball and 1 forest...I'd PREFER forest, just for the natural feel...but I'll try speedball.

No, their guns should be chrono'ed in. Field standards can range around 240-270 or so.

I've never gone paintballing but I've always wanted to, but I must ask one thing: do paintballs hurt as bad as most people say? I've seen pictures of giant, purple welts that look like they'd be sore for weeks, and supposedly this is common in paintball. True/False?

That and the extreme costliness are the only things putting me off.
2005-03-21, 3:38 AM #12
I went once last year, and I'm going again this Saturday. It's incredibly fun :D In my experience, the only places the paintballs really hurt were on the fingers (ouch) and the head. You feel it everywhere else, but it doesn't hurt that bad.
2005-03-21, 5:47 AM #13
From what I've heard, those giant, nasty, purple welts you've seen don't actually hurt that much. It's the fingers that hurt the most. (Besides a shot to the nuts, I guess, but it's never happened to me.)

I've gone paintballing a couple of times (always with rented equipment), and it's quite fun even though I'm not that great. I have the problem that I'm actually a bit scared of getting hit. For this reason, I really don't like speedball. I also prefer woodsball because it's more like a real battle.

No it doesn't really hurt. Yea, every feild will (Or should... I wouldn't go to any that didn't) have a chrono as mentioned. That keeps the speed in check. But cranked up speed.. Doesn't do anything than hurt people. It makes you're gun LESS accurate.

Those huge nasty welts happen.. but are extremely rare. Most hits will just look like a small hickey.. and you'll only have them for a few days.

Most the time those shots are from pretty close, too. My worst welt came from a A5 flatline from about 15 feet.

But the most painful shots are knuckles specifically, (caught one inside my gloves once), your forehead right above where the mask cuts off (unless you have a visor extension), and the nuts.

I was out of commision for a good 5 minutes after a direct nut shot. I've had one before, and it wasn't bad. But this one time. I couldn't walk. Couldn't move. I just laid down on a couch (Yea the feild has couches :) ) and recovered slowly.
Revenge was mine next game.

I got shot on my first day at a field. The guy about 50 ft out, and I was standing behind a wooden pallet that you'd see a forklift in Home Depot using. He had a flatline, and aimed at my feet. It curved up through the boards (there was no possible way it was a level shot) and I just fell over right there.

It was double elim, I had to hobble back to start and go out again. All the while my dad's on the other side of the net lobbing paintballs at me
