Any programs for random desktops?
2005-03-21, 8:36 AM #1
I found one that will display a different desktop each boot up - But I leave my computer on generally for a week at a time, rarely rebooting.

Any of you know of a progam that will automatically change the desktop (From a bunch of images in a certain folder, for example)?

Thanks!

OK I think I can help you.

Try this:
- Find the program command that runs on startup to change the wallpaper. It could be in the Start Menu, it could be in the registry.
- Go to scheduled tasks and add a task from this command. Set it to execute as often as you want it to change your wallpaper.

Hope this works. :)

In Win98 I know you could set an HTML page as your background (can't on my computer at work running Win2k). You should theoretically then be able to use an HTML page with a little javascript to do a background change after a certain amount of time. I've never tried it, though.

Just a thought if you don't want another program running.

html desktops require active desktop to be enabled.

No

No they don't.

Active desktop is where you can place little windows on your desktop, each one being a view to an online HTML file.

Placing an HTML file as your desktop does not involve this windowing thingy, and the file itself becomes the desktop. Although it does take up more memory and is slower because it has to use IE to render the desktop.

I wrote this in JavaScript a looong time ago. The rows and columns are dynamically generated from an array of information. Only problem is I can't set the active working directory to launch a program, so I usually have to make a batch file for some programs.

The two windows in the lower right can be moved. You just click once on their title bar, and then click again anywhere on the screen to place them.
