Quote:
From correspondents in St. Paul, Minnesota

March 22, 2005

A GUNMAN had shot more than a dozen people at a school on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in northern Minnesota, local media reported.

Six people were dead and the gunman had killed himself, according to broadcast reports.

AP reports that police chief deputy Tom Lyons said up to 14 people were injured in the mid-afternoon shooting.

He said a suspect was in custody, but he had no other details.

Red Lake High School, on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, has about 300 students, according to its website.

There were roadblocks reported around the reservation.

The reservation is about 390km north of St Paul and is home to the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians.

That sucks.

I remember at one point, there was a regular member here who had gone to Columbine.

I don't think "that sucks" will describe how I feel about such tragic events.

:( I know several people that go to school there; I also played football and basketball at that school a few times when I was in High School. :(

I can't exactly say I didn't see it coming though. Just to get into the school you have to go past 10 foot tall barbed wire fences and then through metal detectors. That whole reservation is a cest pool for violence.

That's too bad. I just hope school authorities don't decide to go on another witch hunt like they did after Columbine.

*sigh* I'm guessing video games might get blamed.... again.

It's truly sad when a student just looses his mind and goes beserk on everyone.

There's actually already a thread about this.

But yeah, it does suck. I just wonder what drives people to do these things.

middle school can be pure hell, though.

I can see why this guy might want revenge if people were giving him s*** all the time, but I don't condone his actions of shooting the place up. Back in my day, you only got a proverbial slap on the wrist for fighting, so all you had to do was fight back to earn yourself some respect. Kids don't have it as easy anymore.
2005-03-22, 7:42 AM #17
Fighting really isnt that much better of a way of resolving the situation.

Videogames aren't going to get blamed for this one.

jeez i hear about this last night, though she said it was 10 people killed and it was in bemidji. hope this is the same thing and she just got her info wrong... bleh this sucks. apparently it's the 2nd one in MN and the worst since columbine

[edit] er yeah genki just typed it wrong. 10 dead, 15 injured. blah :([/edit]

Why do they need to blame some sort of culture? I mean, it was HIM. HE shot them, not goths, or videogames.

That's what I mean by the whole witch hunt after Columbine. It definitely only makes things worse for kids who are different, because they single out kids who are different as being the next ones to go off.

I was quiet and suddenly I was being told It's because I'm psychotic, and it's not just because I have nothing to say.

It sounds horrible, but I'm glad the kid shot himself. If only he just did that in the first place. It's a horrible and sad thing. All those kids were 14, 15, 16...Plus his grandparents. My god.

Because shootings in minnesota means minnesota is a cest pool for school shootings. But videogames and goths aren't to blame at ALL.

STFU.
