What's with the chat?

1. The applet isn't working for me. Java's installed, browser allows applets.

2. mIRC isn't able to connect to irc.massassi.net, port 6667. What's up?

Well for one, you want to be connecting to irc.holonet.org, 6667, then join #massassi

Then could someone please update Massassi's chat page? It contains misinformation, such as telling people to connect to irc.massassi.net. :(

Forget the java applet. Use this instead.

irc.massassi.net has worked for ages. It simply directs you to holonet. If it isn't working, it has stopped within the last few weeks, because that's what I've always used. However, I would guess that just switching to holonet would be more reliable.

We should link GBK's CGI::IRC page for the chat. Seriously.

irc.massassi.net works for me. It's a redirect to the holonet.

/me wholeheartedly agrees with the above statement.

Last night it tried mIRC tried connecting to irc.massassi.net 56 times, and all of them were unsuccessful. gbk, I noticed your cgi thing is a lot slower than the applet.. There's really no reason to use it if the applet can be fixed easily..

I thought this was going to be a thread about "The chat just lacks these days..." and I was going to say "well ADD to it, silly"

But you ruined it. :(

oS I thought you were going to install a newer applet at some point?
2005-03-22, 1:36 PM #14
ok, i replaced the chat applet with a very respectable one, and tweaked all the colors, and set it up proper. This one works with Firefox too, which I don't think the old one did. Also, there will be no whining from this one about the license on occasion (the old one sometimes could not read our valid license that we PAYED FOR), because it's free.

I've been meaning to do this for 2 years and have had the files waiting for upload. lol. I updated the copyright on the bottom too, so now its the only page copyrighted for 2005 :P

Now if only I could remember how to post on the mainpage...

I was trying to play star wars trivia with the cgi IRC page, and I'd dtype something, and it would show up 60 seconds later. :\ It's not bad normally, but if there's lots of spamming, it gets damn slow. And Brad, the applet is awesome! Thanks!

When you use the CGI:IRC there is going to be more lag than if you don't because all traffic has to go between GBK's server before it reaches it's destination (you->GBK->server, server->GBK->you).

That, and it uses CGI, and his server is sloooow :p :D

This is the only chat applet that has ever worked on my computer, no matter what browser I'm using and what applets I have installed, so its OK in my book!
Life is beautiful.

But it's a blessing for people like me who are typically on a campus network that blocks ports like 6667.

Same here. I've been using it in one of the computer labs on campus because they've recently installed firewalls on all the pcs. The applet wont work there, but the CGI interface does.
